Princeton Class of 2028 Official Thread

Has anyone received a likely letter from Princeton? Seems Yale, Cornell, and Columbia have released theirs…

Likely letters are not given to everyone. Select, targeted .

What is a likely letter?

It’s a letter some colleges send out to their top applicants before final decisions are given.

Not really. It’s given to a small number of applicants that are deemed an institutional priority. Not necessarily top applicants. They are also given to recruited athletes at some schools, typically in the ED/REA time frame.

I’m not sure what “top” would mean other than top priority.

Like if they desperately need a bassoon player next year bc their best players are all about to graduate, and applicant has grades, scores, and leadership that are middle of the pack for accepted applicants

Traditionally Princeton has only sent likelies to recruited athletes.

Only for recruited athletes

I’m curious what message you all get when you try to register here: https://apply.princeton.edu/portal/preview_registration_2024

offered for admitted applicants only

I doubt they finalized their decisions let alone entering them into the systems. I think it may be too early for portal Astro.

It’s interesting that you say that. My S24 won some awards recently, including a state level award that’s tied to his intended major, and being named a co-valedictorian. Our consultant said it’s too late to submit additional information within the portals since colleges have already finalized their decisions, but I tend to agree with you that they may still be in process. Part of me thinks he should submit them anyway, and part of me thinks they might wonder why he’s submitting it so late.

Submitting is not going to hurt anything, in fact it might benefit your son if the updates are very good.

I would guess they are at such a point that while the decisions for the whole class is not final and they are still making a few final checks, they are done for the majority of applicants.

i had the same question about submitting—i find out if im a qualifier for ISEF today so im wondering if that woukld be worth an update (I’ve already won first in my category at RSEF and I find out if I’m in the top 5 out of 16 today to go to ISEF)

I would, if I think the update is good, new and something that adds more credibility to my application.
