Ice-breaker: Do y’all think that the Interview can have a significantly positive impact if it goes amazingly well?
@aarybalkar From what I have heard, the interview is more of a way to raise yield. I think an amazing interview can have a positive impact but probably not significantly. Many say the writeup interviewers send is treated like another letter of recommendation, but weighted a bit less.
would you guys prefer Harvard or Princeton?
MIT
@amogh97 tough decision, but fortunately?/unfortunately one I likely won’t have to make haha
Whichever accepts me >_< Lol!
Notre Dame all the way LOL
damn lol
@amogh97 Princeton > Harvard any day. I like the smaller size and focus on undergraduate education. Also, Harvard’s campus is low key ugly while Princeton has one of the best campuses I’ve ever seen.
Harvard is WAAY better than any other uni. The people are amazing, the student life is amazing, it is academically challenging yet there is a lot of help with stress relief, and people barely worry about grades. Harvard is literally HEAVEN!!!
@randomstudentt As someone who has a brother who is an undergraduate at Harvard, you are SO wrong. Harvard is not heaven. I think it is a little difficult for you to make a statement like that when you have never attended the school. Harvard has just as many flaws as any other top school.
On that note, does anyone know what time decisions are usually released?
Last year it was 7Pm ET
@4729562 Agreed. Princeton’s campus is better than Harvard’s. Also, its focus on undergrad is immense.
Someone I know who went to Harvard mentioned that Harvard’s undergraduate experience is good, but not exceptional, one of the reasons being that they pour a lot of their funding and attention into graduate programs. Princeton on the other hand has a much smaller proportion of grads to undergrads and therefore focuses more so on the undergrads
Luckily (I guess?) Princeton is the only Ivy that I applied to! I have a friend who got into Harvard early though, and she’s only said good things about her conversations with alums and current Harvard students.
@honestlyidek My brother attends Harvard and he was the one that wrote that comment. Also more comments from him: "People throw so much shade at Harvard but they don’t know what it is like being there. Harvard is amazing, the classes are extremely well taught, the workload is challenging but is not stressful due to the help and extra opportunities to learn (they emphasize learning much more than grades), people are extremely nice, the parties are lit, people are very HUMAN and love to help each other, I definitely do not feel like I have imposter’s syndrome because nobody is trying to outcompete you, and I love how Harvard is so diverse, people have the opportunity to learn anything starting on any level; that is, you can start in precalc but you can also start in linear algebra and real analysis if you want to study math, and the same situation applies to other subjects. The financial aid is INCREDIBLE, I love my extremely comfy dorm and my extremely nice roommate. I love the food, I have allergies and they have done so much to accommodate me safely, and the dining hall staff are extremely nice and fun people to talk to. I was just evicted from Harvard due to CORONAVIRUS, and they did the right decision at the right moment, gave us extensions to relieve stress, gave us free storage and free flights (if on finaid), and they gave housing to people from countries with travel ban or COVID19 level 3, or abusive households, they also provided VPN for households with poor internet connection. So far, all of the people I know have loved their Harvard experience and were very very sad about leaving campus due to COVID19… because people LOVE the community and love Harvard… Harvard is home. And… all of those hate comments come from people that did not go to Harvard… so yeah.
Obviously Harvard has flaws, like any other school, but it is not a prestigious school for rich snobby kids, it is mega LIT place for a lot of cool, friendly, kind, innovative, creative, diverse, and hard-working people."
does anyone know if Ivy day will be earlier this year due to COVID-19? I know a lot of schools are releasing early, what about Princeton and the other ivies? It’s supposed to be the 26th at 7PM but who knows if they will move it up.
@acon02 Really? If anything, I heard schools were pushing back their decision dates because of COVID-19… not moving them up. At any rate, I doubt it…Ivy Days are almost always definite.
Most schools that I’ve heard of from others are actually releasing results later than usual (Northwestern, Emory, USC, etc.). I think that all Ivies will stick to the pre-established date of March 26th.
