Princeton University Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Is it true that students are going to be accepted for REA if their 1st quarter/semester grades were requested by Princeton’s admissions? Mine weren’t and I’m terrified (even though I’m not the ideal/perfect A and SAT student)?

Princeton is such a great place to be - gorgeous campus, safe area, the best engineering school within a liberal arts college, emphasis on food, sports, and academics, research/internship opportunities, and a chance to be part of a diverse student body. I hope my son gets in. Unlikely, with all the crazy stats out there, but we can still hope and pray!

Hi,
My son’s grades were requested the week of December 4th. His current gpa is 4.0/4.75 unweighted out of a 5.0 scale. It’s difficult to wait and looking for clues or signs can be exhausting. Best of luck!

Does anyone see anything other than application complete in status?

What are his stats?

So I just found this board two days ago when I was starting to obsess about admission and haven’t posted yet, but my daughter was just accepted!!! I’m still in a bit of shock. Hopefully lots of other families have had good news tonight!!!

My son was accepted as well! It said our financial aid wasn’t complete - possibly due to the FASFA? If you applied for financial aid, were you able to see anything?

Congratulations!!! I’m afraid I don’t really have any good info on FAFSA, but I have heard that they finalize those after EA decisions. Not 100% sure, though. I hope everything works out the way you want it to for your son!

If you are deferred is it wise to send a letter of continued interest? How many are accepted, rejected, deferred?

Deferred.

Since Princeton doesn’t track interest, a letter of continued interest most likely wouldn’t be helpful unless the applicant is providing some new information (e.g., recent accomplishments or awards).

In recent years Princeton hasn’t publicized EA stats, but in my region around 11% of EA applicants were accepted last year and nearly a third were deferred. But the figures might be different for other parts of the country (I’m in a fairly well-off part of a northeastern state) or for the applicant pool as a whole, so consider those percentages as only rough estimates. Also, over the past decade Princeton has dramatically reduced the percentage of EA deferrals (it used to be around 70%!), so last year’s figures may not be applicable.

I should also mention (in response to some other posts) that Princeton normally provides financial aid packages at the same time as the EA acceptance notification.

Finally, congratulations to those who were accepted!

Little late on here, but accepted!!! I guess Q1 request really is a good sign.

I have to admit, I am still a bit confused by the grade requests. My daughter did not get one, but was admitted. Perhaps because her school has semesters rather than quarters? I don’t really see how the updated grade info helps Princeton very much, since the vast majority of their applicants have stellar grades, and there’s no reason to think they would suddenly tank the first semester of their senior year. They must have some reason for asking, but it’s about as clear as mud to me.

My speculation is that it is just to ensure that they have not lessened their effort after submitting applications.

there’s no reason to think they would suddenly tank the first semester of their senior year.

Indeed, but no harm in checking.

Does Princeton generally defer more than they reject, a la Harvard?

Maybe this will help

Thanks for posting this. It is helpful. Maybe her guidance counselor sent in my daughter’s first quarter grades and just didn’t tell her that she had done so. :woman_shrugging:

Congratulations to all who are accepted. Best wishes to all of you again! And congratulations on HS graduation. The next phase of life will be new, exciting and lots of learning

Our D24 got her SCEA acceptance last week! We are so pleasantly surprised and excited for her. Now she is trying to decide what’s next, as she hasn’t had a frontrunner choice and has applied to a very diverse set of schools, including some whose majors are more closely aligned with her interests.

Her school did send in first trimester grades but we don’t know if they had been requested beforehand. They do it as a standard process.

Do you think deferral rates have gone down? I’ve only seen three deferrals and one acceptance in my competitive high school, where about 40 students applied to Princeton. It’s a local sample, though.
