Looking at last year’s thread, it looks like counselors receive the request directly and will inform you at their discretion.
Ahh, thanks for pointing that out! I was going by what by school counselor told me.
Yes, it does mean something. If you request to see your Q1 grades, that means for a good reason, they ** need ** to see the grades.
Hi, I can’t speak on the specific case of Princeton, but at my kid’s HS, this is general true. If the student has put on the Common App they are going to take AP CLASSES on subjects, A, B and C, and they change to other (usually easier or fewer) classes, they will need to get permission from the school (that has accepted them early). However, a number of students end up not taking the AP (public, not school) exams, and nobody cares. Check with your college counsellor.
Thanks for the info!
so for students who already submitted the mid term grade when they submit the application on Nov, is there any other way to read the good sign?
Has anyone received a Q1 grade request yet?
Have you gotten them yet?
I heard that in the first week of December, Princeton requests 1st Quarter Grades from counselors for some students. People who don’t get it aren’t at any disadvantage at all, but I’ve heard that those who do are deferred or admitted.
Thoughts on this? Does anybody have some insight or an experience to share? Who has received it?
I’m an international applicant–do we receive it?
You probably wouldn’t receive anyway, particularly if your school doesn’t do Q1 grades and if your counselor already included predicted scores.
What counts as Q1 grades? My school does a progress report after the first two months of school–that’s what my counselor said they’d send.
American students get 4 formal grade reports per year (or 3 if their school is on trimesters).
If a school doesn’t have a formal Q1 grade report, a university may accept an informal update in lieu
@skieurope we only get 2 (semester report). no formal grade report for Q1.
did your kid get a Q1 report req yet?
Not that we know of
@Parent-in-Georgia Did you have any experience with the Princeton Parent Loan program when your daughter enrolled? I did not apply for financial aid as I do not qualify but their loan program seems like an alternative to tuition out of pocket.
Probably shouldn’t be worrying about this as it requires an acceptance first!
@Berk708 we didn’t qualify for any financial aid either (according to FAFSA), but Princeton does its own calculation based on the Princeton Financial Aid Application and FAFSA. They’re very generous with their grant. In fact, for our D23, Princeton gave us the best grant, better than what Duke, Cornell and other top schools offered us.
So, I would say, don’t worry about the loan programs as of yet. Fill in the Princeton Financial aid application (if you applied for financial aid that is) and see the grant amount they give you. And then you can decide if you need additional loan or not. Good luck and please feel free to ask any questions.
Thanks for the quick reply. I did not apply for it because the Princeton NPC said the grant from Princeton would be 0. Hence the interest in their loan program. Good luck to you guys too!
@Berk708 to answer your earlier question, no we don’t have any experience with Princeton parent loan programs. We paid out of pocket for whatever amount that wasn’t covered by the grant. But they do provide some loan options.
Bumping this thread–anybody recieved the Q1 grade requests yet?
They’re supposed to have already been sent according to trends in previous threads.
