I really expected the judges to eliminate both Swapnil and Ashley and for Tim to save Ashley.
On Ashley…and the plus size market…we don’t know (or I don’t) whether she is a designer who thinks clothes should lmake the model ook thinner//\embrace the curves type or a “you should be able to wear what you like (whether it’s ‘flattering’ or not).” That is a dichotomy we see in clothes/design all the time. I’m pretty sure I’d look “better” if I wore heels and spanx everyday…but no.
If Ashley indeed believes plus size customers don’t need any special design efforts, which is certainly a valid point of view, then what does it mean for her to characterize herself a plus size designer? If it’s just that she uses larger models and makes clothes in bigger sizes, then that seems to be about presentation, not design. Any of the designers on the show could do that. But there’s nothing about Ashley’s designs that would have qualified her to be on the show if not for her plus size shtick. And given her own hair, makeup and clothing choices, her taste level is beyond tacky.
I just watched the show. I loved Edmunds dress, however, I can see why Kelly won. I am so disappointed with Ashley, she used to be one of my favorites, but she has gone downhill. Hopefully she will be eliminated next week, and if she isnt, I hope Tim uses his save for one of the others. I like the finalists.
I agree about Ashley. It seems like she has too much self-doubt to really “make it.” (Of course, we are seeing the highly edited version of her on a reality show, so it may not be an issue IRL.)
I am really surprised that the judges loved Ashley’s look so much. I thought it was awful, the cape especially, and had nothing to do with the “bridge” challenge. When the model came down the runway, I told my D she looked like a wrestler in that cape.
I’m not a huge fan of Merline, but I think this week it was Ashley who should have gone home. I get the sense that Nina really likes Ashleyl
This season has not been my fav, but I faithfully record every Thursday night. I have Comcast and I have noticed that they replay twice the same night, but only one of the replays is full length. Odd
I guess Kelly fulfilled the “avant garde” requirement the best, but I thought her dress was stupidly literal, and oh my goodness, the foks at Mood must have been high-fiving that they finally got rid of that hideous fake reptile fabric.
Ashley’s outfit was just awful. I liked the others. From Tim’s exit line to Merline, I get the feeling that her dress looked worse in person than it did on tv. But I thought Ashley’s crazy outfit was by far the worse AGAIN.
Only caught part of the show again but I thought Ashley’s reminded me of the Women’s Wrestling Team challenge from seasons past. I personally like Merline’s and loved Candace but Kelly’s I suppose met the more avant garde concept of the challenge.
I thought the red one that made the best use of the 3d stuff should have won. So great that Mel asked to wear it for an event. Kelly’s barely used the 3d stuff.
What?!! Didn’t Tim save Edmond? They didn’t show Tim telling him to pack up his stuff in the workroom so those previews of only the 3 girls getting their collections done next week were meant to throw us off, right?
Tim really ruined things for Edmond, who, realizing the wild fabric was a mistake, had come close to finishing a plan B dress that would have beaten Ashley’s mess. But Tim pushed him to take a risk and use the sparkly stuff, even though he had clearly no concept of what to do with it. So I think Tim truly owes Edmond the save that is coming next week. The only issue is what else Edmond will have to do to convince the judges he should show at Fashion Week–I doubt Tim’s save alone will take him there.
This season was so bad that I’m convinced the world has simply run out of truly promising new designers–Project Runway has just used them all up over the last few years. Maybe the show should go on sabbatical for a while–at least three years–to allow the next generation to come along.
And what was the purpose in shlepping the designers to LA and back? I expected they’d at least get to attend a premiere or some actual red carpet event to inspire them, but unless I missed something big when I had to take a short phone call, it looked like they didn’t even get a decent restaurant meal or a swim in the hotel pool, just a quick view of the hills, a trip to Mood West and a day and a half in a windowless workroom. Why bother? And how cheap is the show to put them up in a Best Western? (The women couldn’t even muster up a convincing “oooohhh” as they entered their very ordinary suite.) It doesn’t seem that long ago that the show sprung for trips to Europe and semi-lavish outings. The whole thing has become so low-rent, from the accessories wall to the cosmetics and hair styling sponsors. It’s depressing.
