Project Runway 2015 Edition! Who's Watching!

I just saw a giant shark jump at the end of Project Runway.

I could tell they were going to give it to Ashley as soon as they started the critiques. In fact, I’ve had a feeling she would win since last week’s episode. I didn’t like her collection much myself, although I hesitate to judge clothes that are so far removed from the universe of anything I would ever have considered wearing at any age (plus-sized or not). I liked Edmund’s and Kelly’s the best, and would have been happy to see either of them win.

They’re certainly pushing the “Project Runway Junior” show. I have no idea if it will be any good, but I do like a couple of the judges, and thought the contestants were adorable. A few of them really reminded me of my son when he was in high school – not so much in the fact that they were obviously gay, but in their exuberance and willingness to express their individuality at an age when it isn’t necessarily easy to do so.

I wear plus sizes and I would NEVER wear any of Ashley’s creations. They were not flattering. I guess if you have judges who have never really looked at plus sized clothing, they might not know any better. Good choices make women looks slimmer, not heavier. A prime example is what Ashley wears most of the time. Two pieces in contrasting colors chops her in half. Plus, as someone mentioned up-thread, her clothes are too tight on her. Overall, I thought her designs were the worst.

Candace was my favorite.

I have always been a watcher but didn’t watch this season. Happened to watch it tonight so I’m only judging on what was presented tonight. Edmund by far had the best collection. The sparkles and the leather were both trashy looking. The plus size stuff was awful. The shorts were all riding up in the crotch and looked cheaply made.

Wow. I watched this whole last show with dread because I could tell from the beginning that Ashley was going to win. Goodness! I couldn’t believe the positive words the judges were saying about her collection. Perhaps the judges never go to Kohls when the Easter dresses come out. Maybe they see so much sophistication that lack of sophistication seems original. I don’t know what else to say.

I think Edmund had the most wearable collection. I liked Candace and Kelly, too, but absolutely cannot believe that Ashley won with that crap she put down the runway. Might as well have been granny panties.

“Might as well have been granny panties.”

Shades of Gretchen! (The worst winner ever among the seasons I’ve watched, except perhaps the one who didn’t know how to sew – Anya? And now Ashley.)

My least favorite designer and worst collection. Ugh

Lace for plus size? Such a cliche.

I just watched it, and I think I am done!!! I am so beyond pissed that Ashley won, wth??? It shouldve been Edmund or Kelly. Heck Ashley doesnt even sew well. I rarely tweet, but I think this calls for a terse tweet to project runway and Heidi Klum lol

Ashley should have lost LONG ago. I don’t get it.

Where would anyone wear Ashley’s see-through crop-top outfits? I certainly don’t think they would be appropriate for church, school, or work. Looking back, I shouldn’t be surprised. This whole season was all about Ashley.

AAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!

This is as bad as granola-Gretchen’s win. Kellie at least brought some interesting ideas. Edmund snapped under the pressure. Candace, I thought, at least had beautiful clothing. Ashley? The sad, pastel, buy-it-in-box-stores “good enough for a big girl” clothing? Seriously? And she solved the bra problems by making a bright blue bandage top?

So done. So done, done, done… My DH read an interview with Tim, who said this season was by far the least talented bunch who weren’t “hungry”, just going through the motions.

That was a surprise. The head pieces were such a distraction. I loved Candace’s first dress. Ditto for Edmund’s and most of his collection. Overall, Kelly seemed like the likely winner. Way too much PR junior hype. This finale was just blahhhh.

Edmund must have wanted it --he tried 13 times to get on the show. Pretty sure Kellie and Candice wanted it too.
All Ashley did is cry and whine. And she can’t sew still. And the designs are just awful.
The show itself has changed though–there used to be more trips to Mood to pick fabric (which is big in ltself), a lot less unconventional material challenges (which are fun but more like craft projects), they had more time to produce their collections and help at the end to pull things together. Everything is now geared toward sound bites, budget cutting and what some random producer thinks the public wants to see rather than actual judging of design. Maybe that’s why Kors isn’t on it anymore? It’s a pretty big prize though to be so biased–the contestants deserve more. Makes me wonder how many new contestants will be designing for LBGT, anorexics, prosthetic clients etc. just to find a niche that will give them the edge. And then cry their way to the top. They needed the plus-size challenge for everyone–I’ll bet Ashley would lose hands down. Argh…

I had recorded it, so was able to fast forward through the myriad PR Jr. promotions. I watched the first few minutes of the show that was after it…Somebody Zoe. Kelly Osborne was on the show, acting as if anyone who wasn’t in Ashley’s camp was anti-plus sized woman!

Right…which leaves evening/cocktail/after 5? Please show me the women, of any figure type, who are lining up to wear pink and lilac lace to a sophisticated evening event.

I’m waiting for dirt to come out about the show having a deal with someone to make Ashley win. I really don’t see this as a win for plus-sized women because the clothes were not flattering.

On the other hand, maybe it’s a ploy to encourage home sewing…because after that, I certainly think that I could go to JoAnn and buy a Simplicity pattern and some cheap fabric and create something that looks better (and is sewn better) than Ashley’s creation.

I just had an awful, horrible, cynical thought…that the judges are so used to seeing women who are tall and have a BMI of about 5 that they really aren’t aware that plus-sized clothes can be flattering, and that plus-sized women can look terrific…and that they think so little of larger women that they condescendingly gave the win to Ashley, thinking that she was doing a great job “for a plus-sized woman.” Please tell me that I’m too cynical and that the judges really aren’t that narrow-minded.

^^That is the only way Ashley could have won^^

You should read the Twitter comments. One saying Nina should be forced to wear that hideous violet outfit with the hat, on cover of Marie Claire.

Too many to quote, but clever.

I wish Candice and Edmund had stuck to their guns and just sent down their original collections. The judges didn’t used to have this last minute critique, did they? Maybe it is since they switched networks? I don’t like it. I think it is enough for Tim to visit as the mentor and then I want to see unfiltered designer walking down the runway, not a watered down “gotta please both Nina and Zack even they they told me completely opposite things 3 days before the show” collection.

Yes, Candice veered into costume but she would have made a huge impression with those wooden elements and the big hoop skirt. Go big or go home (and she probably would have gone home anyway since Ashley’s win seemed kind of preordained, yes?)!

And they told Edmund he wasn’t sexy enough based on one dress. I felt worst for him getting eliminated with his audition history.

The 2 designers who changed the least were the final 2, for better or for worse.

I watched the intros to the junior designers and I thought they all seemed very excited and very talented, some of them probably more so than adults we sat through this season.

Choosing Ashley over Kelly was the worst decision since they selected Gretchen over Mondo.
