Project Runway 2017

That pink dress made me wonder if he just wanted to go home.

I think Kenya is the one to beat! She has great instincts, and I think Brandon will eventually run into a challenge that he can’t quirkify. Although, I loved the pink striped thing.

Did Aaron really send THAT down the runway? Oy.

The losing dress looked like it had fabric softener sheets hanging from it. Nothing redeemable. Not even decent sewing skills. The designer was pretty weak in past challenges. Auf Weidersehen!

On the twins front, it’s apparent to me that Shawn is more talented than Claire. Another decent creation from Shawn this week.

Amy (the one that teaches) seems to be skating by but I’m unimpressed with her work.

Seemed like an easy challenge this week.

I didn’t really like Brandon’s dress, but even then my first thought was that it was nice fabric and well made.

There are a bunch of them who are always safe, so we don’t see their work. Amy, the woman with the top knot hair, the other woman (Michelle?)

I really liked the piano guy’s white dress this week.

Even if the aesthetics of Brandon’s dress wasn’t your style - yes, it was well constructed and original, much more original than most (all) of the other designs, IMO.

FYI PR fans…this is Nina Garcia’s last week at Marie Claire. She was recently named Editor in Chief of Elle magazine. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/12/fashion/nina-garcia-elle.html?mcubz=3

This week, I really enjoyed watching the 2nd place model work the runway in the gold/black lace number with the gorgeous cape and the amazing crown of feathers. I thought for sure that look would win.

In another life, I would like to be the type that could rock Brandon designs

I am still wondering what the cheating turns out to be. Whatever it is it seems to send Michael off the runway in the middle of judging and I think it all goes down during the episode where Yolanda Hadid is a judge (this is going by the the trailer, which I know is edited to make everything more dramatic and also takes things out of context).

Speculation is that it involves the twins and their collaborating. I don’t know the specific rules, and you see all the time designers borrowing fabric, or helping with a hem or cutting fabric if they have extra time–but even up to this point we have seen from the twins “help me figure out this top and I’ll sew your pants for you”, for example. The other designers have certainly taken note but I think it hasn’t been made into a big deal because neither twin has yet won a challenge.

Of course, it could be something else Tim finds “disgusting…unprofessional, unseemly, and atrocious.” Yikes!

As far as this last episode, I watched with my 14 yo son (not a regular watcher), and he thought Kenya and her suit should have won hands down. He didn’t understand Brandon’s dress at all or why the judges were nuts over it. I could appreciate the uniqueness of the design, the crisp fabrics, and how well it appeared to be made, but I did not think it was a winner. I also loved the feather headdress on Michael’s model, Liris–she really did look like an evil yet regal queen and you could tell she felt great in the whole look.

The only thing else I can think of is doing something to destroy/maim/hinder the production of another’s garment.

One contestant was disqualified in one of the early seasons for having pattern books in his room. I forget his name!

The twins are a train wreck, and I don’t think it would surprise me if the scandal involves them. I can’t help but remember, though, the first episode when Brandon seemed in over his head, and even questioned himself as to whether he should be there or not. I like him. He seems humble and genuine, so I hope it’s not him involved, but I just can’t get that episode out of my head.

I was so glad to finally see two designers who designed something sexy for the plus sized models!!!

I like Brandon, but agree that he needs to show something more than oversized menswear dresses.

The twins are like nails on a blackboard to me-- I alternate between which one I dislike more.

The twins are the type of reality show people I hope gain insight by watching themselves.

I think they’ll watch and think they’re fabulous.

And that the comments and eyerolls from the other contestants are merely a sign that they’re jealous of the twins’ talent.

Yeah, delusional. I know. I think they’re only on the show because of the novelty factor.

We’re not supposed to like the twins. The show is being edited in a way to manipulate us and make us feel that way. Who knows if they are that irritating in real life? It’s reality tv show. We see snips strung together edited from hours and hours of tape. I’m sure they could make us like or dislike any of the contestants if it fits their narrating of the show.

@SplashMom told us early in the thread that the twins were related to her H. SplashMom are you still watching?

They are annoying in their reliance on each other. But i have to say (don’t hit me!) I have a soft spot for Claire! She kind of humors me!

Not saying that anyone shouldn’t give their opinion on the twins or any other contestant but just thought I’d put that out there one more time that “one of us” is related to the twins.

Yes, @abasket, I’m still watching. The twins are a mess. I met them only once, and that was almost eight years ago at my hubby’s grandmother’s 90th birthday party. I’m not offended at all by anyone’s opinion of them. Quite honestly, they irritate me, too.

^^Thanks for responding @SplashMom! Good to know how you feel and that you weren’t bothered. We will feel free to be honest while also being reasonable!!

I like Brandon but his “curtains with a valence” look was horrible. Really? Stripes hanging down with no shape with a white strip across the top? Truly curtains. And a bad valence.
The ties at the sleeves were nothing but tie-backs on the curtains.
Can’t believe anyone thought that was good. Heck–someone even mentioned a straight jacket! Never a good look.
Scarlet O’Hara did much better in velvet. Even Carol Burnett with the curtain rod was a better look.
They loved his fabric choice but I have curtains with better fabric still. Ugh.

Did like the “feather” look. Regal and fit the guidelines of the competition. Good job–model looked great
. Red and black good too but it seemed too much costume in some ways with the ruffles.
