Project Runway All Stars 2019

No question, the Bordello Barbie dress was awful - like something you might find on the discount rack at a tacky Halloween costume store. Still, Sunny left the judges no choice. Putting that pin on the back of the dress was like giving them all the middle finger. It’s almost like he was trying to lose.

The instructions were clear; he admitted several times that he chose just to ignore. When he gets the capital to fund his own fashion house, then he can design what he pleases.

The yellow dress was tulle, right? He could have put some of the blue underneath the yellow, and resulted in a green effect in places. I think a lot of the eliminations are going to be very tough because there are some great designers this season. So when somebody ignores the instructions, what choice do the judges have?

I have two sons, one a high school grad and the other will be next year, so I don’t have daughters, but if my daughter wore Irina’s dress ANYWHERE I’d be locking her in the house! Bordello Barbie, indeed!

Alyssa made a good point about this being all stars, so everyone will/should have great skills when it comes to details and construction…because I was impressed with the construction of Bordello Barbie, as tasteless as it was.

I liked the yellow dress and thought the blue start was fine to include the second color. Maybe two stars?

There were several I thought were just plain ugly. I didn’t like the orange and blue winner.

FYI, this season was filmed in 2017 and sat on the shelf until now. (Maybe it was a victim of the Lifetime to Bravo transition.) In the interim, J C Penney terminated its relationship with Project Runway, so all the winning designs that are touted on the show as being available at Penney were never produced. The judges were never going to pick as winners any designs that couldn’t be somehow Penney-ized, which means the best designs haven’t and won’t necessarily win each week. And all for nothing.

I believe this is the only All Stars that included solely PR winners as competitors, and it shows. I really think the designs and workmanship have been far superior to those of any previous PR season.

not sure if that’s a blessing or a curse for the weekly winners to not have had their designs at Penneys. But thanks for that background info, MommaJ. Helpful!

I think part of the delay was also the Chapman-Weinstein issues in 2017. She went dark for a while, and she is one of the producers.

What did you think of tonight’s winner? I thought Irina’s dress was more a craft project than a design (it was just a basic shift under the broken whatevers) and completely unresponsive to the challenge, which called for a classy outfit to wear for a plane ride. You couldn’t even sit down in that dress without severe injury! Jasper’s design was gorgeous, if a bit busy, and would certainly have turned heads in an airport AND allowed the wearer to take her seat. It looked like Seth Aaron just decided to bail on the show altogether once he realized the other designers would be serious competition and he’d have to really go all out to win.

Most of the dresses were totally unsuitable for air travel, but it doesn’t seem like the judges factored that into their decisions. As far as the losers go, I was surprised who was eliminated. Don’t get me wrong, the seat belt dress was awful, but at least he took some risks and tried to be creative. The other dress was bad and boring.

I have not liked any of Irina’s designs this season–the chicken costume, bordello barbie, and whatever last night’s design was. I really do not see what the judges saw in her airplane dress. I too would have preferred to see Jasper as the winner of this challenge.

I was very surprised that they cut the losing designer. His dress was terrible but his body of work is outstanding.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

I edited this to remove the name of the designer. Yes I know that reading this thread is AYOR if you haven’t watched the episode (which I haven’t), but it has not even been 12 hours. So let’s try to be circumspect for a day or so. After all, those in the know already know who “won” The Bachelor this season, but that doesn’t stop the millions watching that train wreck weekly.

I didn’t like Jasper’s skirt. It didn’t seem to match the top. I did agree that Seth Aaron’s was the least ‘designer’ of the dresses.

I do not like the ‘unconventional materials’ challenge. They all look like trash to me.

I say good riddance. He was getting annoying.

Agreed, @musicmom1215. I really liked him in the previous episodes but last night, ugh. I was happy with the winner too.

its just so different! normally i like to slightly make fun of some of the designs because sometimes there are train-wrecks; this year they are all pretty darn good and polished looking.

Anyone watch last night’s episode? I agree with the designer that was sent home. I like the designer’s personality but the designs, especially last night’s, were not as good as the others. I was okay with the winner too.

I fell asleep in front of the TV during the ads preceding the winner/loser announcement. I woke up during the middle of the night repeat and watched the runway again. Despite attempting to stay awake I once again slept through the ending. I guess I wasn’t meant to know. I’ll have to watch the repeat next Wednesday.

I thought most of the dresses were better than the host’s ill fitting oddly strapped dress with clashing animal prints.

I was dozing as well and did not hear all of the judges comments but don’t understand how Django survived. His “design” was hideous.
