Project Runway - new season

I think Bert’s age/experience did him in. Yes, he hated his dress…but he stuck with it…he was too conservative to abandon it at the last minute at do something else. Others hated theirs, ditched them, started again and did well. Young/impulsive vs. older/more conservative. Too bad…I can relate because I am not a risk taker myself.

Interesting to consider whether someone who can’t sew well and can’t make a dress that a person can really get into and out of can win. I haven’t watched for all that many seasons. Has it happened before? I can see how, once a designer reaches higher levels, she could sketch something and have others figure out where/how to add zippers and do the sewing. I just don’t know if a designer just starting out could do that.

I didn’t want Bert to go. I hope being on Project Runway gives him a career boost.

Yeah, I wish there was Project Clothes Adult Women Would Wear and Look Good in In Real Life.

didnt want bert to go either, especially after seeing that blog posted here a week or so ago that showed his clothes… i loved them

I wonder if they don’t over emphasize Anyas supposed lack of sewing skills to make for a dramatic story. She has made some stunning and very well fitted outfits for someone who supposedly can’t sew! I like to sew but could never fit an outfit the way she does (back when I used to try and make my clothes I could make an outfit that looked stunning on a hanger but hung like a potato sack on me). And there have been several occasions with other designers sewing their models into dresses for runway - someone (Oliver?) even got into trouble for gluing part of a dress to his model this season.

I think she can sew. Maybe she has a tad less experience. But no one who can’t sew would turn out clothes that are structured and look and fit the way hers do.

I liked Bert’s dress, and actually think he should not have been eliminated. I think Anya really is showing her inexperience with the mechanics of sewing, however, she’s got a terrific sense of design. I know I always am held back by “little things” like having to put in a zipper, etc. I love the way she chooses prints and color, and now with that little black dress, she’s proving herself in every way. Good for her.

I agree, and if you go to her portfolio on the website, it says under Design Education: Parsons School of Design. Whereas for others, like Cecilia’s it says that they were self-taught.

It is a crazy season. A few years ago, we ended up with boring winers that made wearable, drab clothes. I can’t even remember the names of the two winners-just remember long hair and bangs on each. I loved Bert, and do think this will help his career. As for Anya, she is a perfect example of design taking greater emphasis over construction, and in the real fashion world, she would have people to help her with the wearability of her garments. I think she will make it to top 3, actually, and I am rooting for her and Victor.

Also, in the real world, you have more than a day to go from design to product. I think it will be interesting to see what she does when she has a few months to put together her stuff and isn’t under the same time pressure for sewing (because I feel pretty certain she’ll make it to Fashion Week).

Me too. I don’t think the others are anywhere near in design talent. Can’t quite figure out how the blond girl is still there.

Some of Josh’s stuff is just  , and not a good

Bert was a dear. We were sad.

Think Barbie had far worse taste and all the sewing skill in the world just doesn’t make her clothes work.

I like Kim, Anya and Victor. Joshua is really kind of creepy. The orange dress? I didn’t get it.

My wife and I both thought it looked like a badly draped beach towel.

It was good to see Laura Bennett on the after the runway show. She asked Josh some questions about his not so nice ways, which really gave him a dose of his own medicine.

I’ve seen the collections that walk down the runway for the finale (9 designers show while probably 3 are in the finale - they need decoys). Bert’s collection was better than everything he showed on the show. I think if you let him just go design he is really good.

Not a fan on Anya. She’ll probably win anyway because the judges/producers are in love with her. I think they’ve realized that Josh is way too overdesigned and that Barbie just doesn’t have good taste.

Did anyone else notice Anya saying to someone (Viktor, perhaps?) that Kimberly just learned to sew, and that’s why she was having trouble?? To me, that puts the total lie to the claim that she learned to sew “4 months ago.”

I can’t wait for it to be over so that they can start project runway all stars. Perhaps Mondo will win the title that he was robbed of in season 8.

Wow I’m just getting to watch the bird show now and Josh’s orange nothing beat Bert’s lovely flowy gown? I think the show is all about generating buzz now. And here I am feeding it. Oy. Josh should have been O.U.T.

We are still bitter over Mondo not winning. His designs were wonderful and he was just completely adorable.

Am I the only one who was surprised that not a single judge mentioned Joshua’s uneven/unfinished hem? It looked like the model was wearing a sack that he didn’t complete.

I’m very sorry that Bert went home; I liked him.

Another sad Bert fan here. I don’t understand how Josh’s ugly orange drape beat out Bert’s dress. I thought Bert was gracious about the ouster even as I thought it was Josh who should go.

It’s not as shocking or as infuriating as last year’s treatment of Mondo, but I’m still a little p***ed at the show.
