<p>My H never saw last weeks and while we were watching last nights, he reminded me that we knew Bert once upon a time, a long,long twenty years ago. (H is in the biz)<br>
Too bad, but Bert does not seem to have the drive to win.</p>
<p>I really thought the napkin dress should be out, but I understand getting rid of a designer that fell flat in both of the first two shows. Saw good points with all of the top three dresses, but I think I like the birdseed dress best. Daughter and I were also puzzled by Ohio Oliver’s seemingly feigned accent.</p>
<p>But the number one thing I noticed – almost 30 minutes of commercials. Do any of you watch the show in “real time” without using DVR, etc., for zooming past the ads?</p>
<p>Cannot believe that the bird seed dress didn’t win and then for that boring, washed out mess to win??? We were very surprised. </p>
<p>I think the napkin dress should have been a ticket home, even if Josh C. was in the bottom two for the first two weeks. Especially because the think they hated (using fabric) was done by the winner! Napkin dress was so bad that I’m sure it will haunt my dreams. </p>
<p>If I win the lottery, I’m going to persuade Laura Bennett to come back to the fashion world and do my wardrobe year after year.</p>
<p>I don’t see how the designer of that blue catastrophe wasn’t eliminated. There was absolutely nothing attractive about it. I also like the seeded dress the best and did not like the top of the winning dress at all. It looked like it would be really hot and uncomfortable to wear and it wasn’t attractive at all.</p>
<p>Like one of the designers said, “I can’t wait until we get to go to Mood.” Definitely! Of course, with the “stilt challenge” coming up next week, they may have to buy fabric from Tents R Us! :)</p>
<p>Who was the designer who worked for Ralph Lauren? I thought she was amazing. At the final show, she did a Joan of Ark theme, in gloomy colors. Other than that, I’d like her to design my wardrobe.</p>
<p>That blue napkin thing was awful. I also disliked Barbie’s paper outfit. Bert had no energy.</p>

<p>Anyways, this was definitely a polarizing episode. I didn’t like Olivier’s look winning because I don’t like the top and it did not fit well. I’m kind of glad Anthony’s dress (the birdseed dress) didn’t win because the only thing that made it interesting was the collar.</p>
<p>The one I really thought was ugly was the one that was red on the bottom with a strapless brown top. She used some kind of aquarium plastic stuff for the red part. Actually, the red bottom wasn’t bad - it was the mismatched, no-style brown top that messed up the look.</p>
<p>I believe that Tim’s book disclosed that Nina rules the roost when it comes to the decisions on the show (and that Heidi is intimidated by her status as the “fashion expert”)–and given Nina’s support of dreadful Gretchen last season, it’s no surprise that she’s making some stank choices this time. The guest judges who are designers will always agree with Nina for fear of being banned from her magazine.</p>
<p>I believe Olivier’s accent is called PEPP: Pseudo-Eurotrash-PanAsian-Pretentious–but I could be wrong. I cracked up when he said he spent his first 16 years in Ohio! He reminds me of a Saturday Night Live recurring character, can’t remember the name.</p>

<p>My favorite was the aquarium gravel dress - very colorful and flirty. I agree that the only thing interesting about the birdseed dress was the collar. And given the endless commercials, I will be watching the next day through On Demand.</p>
<p>I didn’t like Olivier’s outfit at all – I thought it was stiff and bulky, and that the colors of the top and bottom didn’t go together. However “editorial” it might have been. </p>
<p>Olivier’s mysterious, indeterminate accent reminds me a little of Malan Breton’s. At least Malan really did grow up abroad, though.</p>
<p>I watch on Itunes… as I am not in the US. Do they put subtitles in for Olivier in the U.S. too or only on the Itunes version?</p>
<p>Actually, I think he has an articulation disorder of some sort. </p>
<p>I guess Laura Bennett never stood a chance because she designed for real women who actually do not like to wear birdseed or dogbed dresses.</p>
<p>DVR all the way! They are worse than American Idol. Completely hated Oliver’s outfit - who would wear that hot mess? The bird seed dress best complied with the spirit of the challenge.</p>
<p>^I disagree with that. Anthony made a muslin dress and covered it with bird seed. Unconventional materials challenges emphasize transforming a material into clothing.</p>
<p>Oliver made an ugly skirt from muslin and covered it with wood chips and use FABRIC from a dog bed or toy to make an ill-fitting top. The outfit fit the model like a sack. I don’t see the difference and cannot understand Nina’s comment that it was ‘editorial’. </p>
<p>The collar detail of Anthony’s dress was beautiful and showed real creativity.</p>
<p>I think the judges have their favorites right from the get go. I too wondered why Heidi always seems to “lose out” on her opinion!!! </p>
<p>Oliver is very interesting. Yes, they said he grew up in Columbus Ohio. His affect is so flat at times - he almost seems depressed to me. How many kids leave home at age 16 to go off to Europe on their own???</p>
<p>It’s always funny to me how I actually can’t stand Michael Kors and how I don’t really care much for Nina but I ADORE the show!!!</p>

<p>You have to look past the fit issues and the unconventional materials aspect. A properly fit outfit with that silhouette and coloring would be pretty editorial. Sometimes the judges see an outfit that’s very trendy and look past the errors. This case was not nearly as bad as Michael Costello winning the bridesmaid challenge last season (the judges not only looked past his horrible execution which the designers all knew about, but they commended him on it), considering that Mondo and Andy’s outfits were far superior.</p>
<p>I recently looked through the outfits that didn’t get critique and I found Laura’s outfit to be the best of all of them. Too bad she didn’t make it to critique.</p>

<p>And Bert is getting on my nerves. I know I said I was rooting for him after Episode 1, but that’s before he became such a Debbie Downer. Dude, I was pulling for you because I wanted you to do us “old folks” proud; don’t mess it up by being a whiner!</p>
<p>I wish they would have a couple of weeks of more normal clothes before getting into the odd stuff. How are we supposed to discern their style? As for the dress of Bert and his partner…I’m pretty sure they were selling a shorter version of that in 1982 and I dont’ mean that in a good way. It really looked like drapery fabric. I thought the look that won was the only one that wasn’t hideous.</p>
