I think it mostly means semifinalists. Any idea for the cut off of ND? Got 209 on SI and am not sure
Here’s a link to the “Understanding 2014…” report, that shows the 99th cut at 213 (page 3). Note 215 is also listed as the 99th, but it starts at 213. This is data from the class of 2015. Note the comment to the right (page 3) that reads “percentiles based on juniors who tested in the previous year”. I don’t know that I’ve seen a more recent report from the class of 2016. http://www.bernardsboe.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_3096886/File/Jill%20Shadis/Ridge%20Counseling/Standardized%20Testing/Understanding%202014%20PSAT-NMSQT%20Scores.pdf
@JuicyMango Why don’t you think you will make it when TestMasters and Prep Scholar have you well above the cutoff. I think you are definitely going to make it in California.
Would a 99th percentile score still make the cutoff? Or it varies by state?
@gettingschooled Yes that helps, without actually seeing it myself I’d guess the bolder sections are the ones where you should focus. Had you done any work in Khan SAT prep before sending them your scores?
If you did you notice it telling you to go back to areas that you’re already completed or to skip sections you haven’t gotten to yet because you master that area already on the PSAT?
I believe that the “Understanding 2015” will be sent out at the end of the month when they mail the paper reports to the schools, so your link is the most recent. Thanks – I didn’t want to try to find the one they mailed last year.
You guys are doing a cutoff based off the 240 scale or 228 scale? Cause if it’s 223 for Cali out of 228 is that right?
It was 222 for Cali last year. Most speculation is that the cutoff for the “high cutoff” states should drop some. I would be shocked if it was more than 220 and it might be lower. The prepscholar “subtract 12” estimate is clearly too generous, but there’s got to be some drop for the states at the top of the scale.
i’m screaming on the inside!
@PaMom I though that somebody had confirmed this. Looking at the scores, the cutoffs were an average of about 1 point higher. so maybe 214 would have been a better number, but it is not confirmed. I went back and used both 2013 and 2014 cutoffs as well as the real (213) 99% number from 2013 and the assumed (214) 99% number for 2015. We believe we know that 210 is the 99% National cutoff for this years test. Taking all the data and averaging it yields the below data. Take this with a grain of salt. Score could easily be off +/- 3 points as we have little information. I do believe the previously estimations posted by the services are way too optimistic. After this I will retire and wait until September to see how close it is.

I’m really confused as to the new SI scale. For example, if someone had a selection index of 210 on the new PSAT, is that roughly equivalent to a 210 on the old PSAT? About how much would you estimate last year’s cutoffs to drop/raise?
No TASP but Harvard and Duke TIP
@3scoutsmom I only sent the scores to Khan to answer your question. He had not logged into Khan before that. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
@EarlVanDorn somethings not right with your chart. My ninth grader got a 620 verbal and a 620 math and ended up with a 1240 and a SI of 186 which is the 95% for sophomores( not juniors so I assume it would be less there)…No where near what your chart % has…
Ok yeah it only makes sense for it to drop because the scale is changed…
I agree @drshoema, your estimates seem more realistic than the ones posted on the linked websites.
I dont have my scores!! Anyone have an access code
@drshoema I bet you the cutoff score is going to be the minimum score plus 3 from the lists of minimum to maximum range scores for all states.
@msbox44 I predict 222 cutoff score for NM for New Jersey.
Was a discussion ever made to post scores?
I got 1360 which isnt that good… and a 203/228 SI score. In last years PSAT the 1360 would convert to 215 which was my states cutoff for NMS Class of 2016. I’m only a sophomore- do you think that my score will be good enough next year?
