@EarlVanDorn There was a math question that had something about tanks and one of the answers had 85 (x + y). Can you tell me the answer to that question? It was a multiple choice question.
Is Commended worth anything? Do colleges even care?
@shiftydraw All predictions in this thread are based on 228. Your 221 is almost guaranteed semi-finalist (except maybe in DC or NJ).
damn thats harsh… Thank your for your help… I live in CA so its pretty bad…
@shiftydraw people are predicting somewhere between 218-220 for CA. 221 has a good shot at making it.
This is just for clarification. When it says the cutoff is, for instance, 213, does that mean that people with the score above 213 are semifinalists or people with the score 213 AND above are semifinalists?
@penngirlpending We are talking about the cutoff score in each state for Semifinalists. I believe the cutoff score for Commended is set equal to the lowest semifinalist cutoff score. Incidentally, this means that in a state with the lowest cutoff score, there are no Commended students.
My score still isn’t out… :(((
@myfuture09 It’s 213 AND above.
How much is the expected semifinalist cut-off for nation wide? And for Virginia? Anybody have a site they are looking at for semifinalist scores? I’ve seen some for national
@gusmahler My gut feeling is that the cutoff score for CA will be either 220 or 221. I would love the cutoff score for CA be 220 or lower though.
Hmm… I don’t know if a 1480/220 SI will cut it for Ohio, honestly, everything is up in the air right now and I am extremely anxious. I didn’t know so many Ohioans posted on this thread…
@garyasho2 No problem for OH. OH cutoff SI score was 215 under 240 SI score system. Therefore, if you got 220 SI under the 228 SI score system, you definitely made it.
What do you think chances are for 221 SI in NY? The cutoff has historically been kind of high…
@BunnyBlue I know I’m out for semifinalist because I live in one of those states that needs at least a 215 SI. But I was hoping to at least get commended, but I looked at prepscholar’s blog and they indicated that the lowest SI is 192 but I think that’s a bit too generous. Do you or anyone else have a prediction?
I personally think California will be around 218. I know most everyone on this forum seemed to do very well, but based on what I hear of most students at my school (my school is pretty competitive), the scores here are very inflated.
@garyasho2 I got a 1480 but my SI is 222? Will 222 cut it for CA?
Are the prepscholar blog’s scores too generous? I’m looking at a 207 predicted cutoff for Virginia (which I meet) and think it is not too accurate.
@highcoll According to the conver*** something table issued by the CB, 218 is at the very low end for CA. Not saying it’s impossible though.
@websensation You think so? The test was so much easier than anyone expected. A borderline 99th percentile this year was a 1410, which translates to a maximum of 208 on the old scale. But in previous years, the 99th percentile cut was at 212/213 (on the old scale). That must mean either the test was so easy that a ton of people scored in the upper range, or there was simply a larger amount of people who took the test this year. So, I hope it’s not the former or else the NMSF cutoff scores will be higher.
