**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@stresstasticlife Yeap. 222 out of 228 will certainly cut it for CA IMO.

Will a 206/228 make Semifinalist for New Mexico? Historically New Mexico is from 206-210.

Also I was just wondering why everyone is so hyped about TASP because it’s just an invitation right? It’s not like you are already accepted into the program. And also the application has nothing to do with PSAT.

@stresstasticlife I’m pretty sure you’re gonna make it, haha watch us all be surprised and the cutoffs are so much higher than usual…

I think its established that the TASP email had little/no correlation with this year’s PSAT scores, so that settles that issue

Hey guys! Student in California here. I got a 1500 (225 selection index). Can I make Semi-Finalist? Super stoked either way

@garyasho2 You just think everyone did so well because people are posting on CC which has nothing to do with the reality. Let’s put it this way. The cutoff for CA in the past was 223 out of 240 SI scoring system. Under the 228 scoring system, the cutoff score should be at least several points LOWER than 223. But if it’s true as you say that many did better under this new test because they found it a lot easier even though the scoring system went down from 240 to 228 max SI score, then you may be right. But IMO the Concordance tables take this into account. Maybe they don’t, in which case the cutoff for CA might be 225! Lol

@TheGFG we are in central new Jersey and my sister got her scores this morning.

@garyasho2 Nope I read some earlier comments and the lowest I’ve found is a 1370 for a 99th percentile. That makes the SI even lower lol

Does anyone have any thoughts on 221 for NY? Thanks!!

@highcoll Oh I haven’t followed the whole convo but I understand.

Is 222 SI (730 R+W, 760M) good enough for CA? It seems a little low

@trig2017 it was 218 last year so you’re set!

all the predictions are based on 228 only.

@penngirlpending Thanks so much!! Is the general consensus that in the higher scoring states, this year’s cutoff will be a bit below last year’s?

@penngirlpending My guess is that Prepscholar is going to revise their estimates after having a look at the Concordance Tables. Some people think that you can make estimates by subtracting a fixed number from the old cutoffs, but others, including myself, don’t agree. I think states that had very high cutoffs will have lower cutoffs, but I think some states that had lower cutoffs may actually have higher ones for the new test. I could be wrong. Have to wait and see.

FWIW - DS did better on this year’s PSAT than last year’s PSAT. 2014 - CR 50, M 69 W 68 - 2015 - V 710 M 700 (NMSI 212).

However, he thought he smoked the math and missed 9.

I, for one, like this new test.

ACT in Oct 2014 - Composite 33. We were waiting to see whether he’d focus on ACT or SAT. PSAT 2015 with NO PREP. ACT with a prep course.

I’ll leave it up to him… either at this point. (I think)

@penngirlpending Lol… then isn’t that worse that there’s so many people in the 99th percentile?? Haha… I looked on the NMSC Selection Index page on My College Quickstart, and at least CB has provided the number of juniors that will be considered for the scholarship… I quote, “NMSC will consider the 2015 PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores of some 1.5 million test-takers (usually high school juniors) who meet program entry requirements”. Thus, if there really are only 1.5 million juniors, then I think the 99th percentile is definitely good enough for lower/middle cutoff states.
