hey does anyone have an estimate as to where the commended cut off score will be?

i know it’s just a score and doesn’t matter what state your in

thanks!

@garyasho2 I got a 1400 and i was in the 99th percentile…

This test has been ridiculously easy for everyone. I come from a school in Alabama where there are at most two students who get national merit the past 6 years, (none from the class of 2016), and I know of at least 4 people who got in the high 1400s (with 215-225 Selection Index). About 15 people got in the 1300s to 1400s, so that represents that the cutoff scores will be extremely high, whether you are from a high-scoring state (CA) or low-scoring states (MS or AL). Yes, the cutoffs will differ, but nonetheless, all state’s scores will be extremely high.

Can anyone predict Virginia’s cutoff ??

@marbles24 Same!

Is 222 SI (730 R+W, 760M) good enough for CA? I was already nervous but @Gravitype 's post has got me very anxious.

Will 1450 or 216 SI cut it for Georgia??? I got 99th percentiles in Verbal and Math overall, but my reading (a section of verbal, not the whole thing) had percentiles of 95th to 96th… Is this still alright??? Freaking out

OK, sort of off the topic of the top scores, but the yellow section of the “on track for college” bar does look to be a very small range for verbal and math, but a large range (almost 1/3 of the bar) for the subscores. Weird, are they telling kids that if you got a 500 in math, they should be planning on college for sure and if they got a 480 there’s no chance that they can handle college?

And, the cutoff for college readiness is 390 for verbal but 500 for math. I’m guessing that maybe that means math was easier than verbal for the general population. Unless they set the college readiness cutoffs without consideration for the bell curve of how actual students scored, which is possible.

Does anyone else’s thing for “Number of years spent in grades 9-12” 4? I don’t know if that means I’ve already spent 4 years from grades 9-11, I certainly hope not.

This new scoring system is confusing. The cutoff in my state for National Merit last year was 210 (out of 240) and I scored a 210 this year, but everyone is telling me different things. It’s saying 99th percentile, but at least 15-20 people at my school scored 210 or above. Only 8 students were semifinalists last year. Can anyone offer any insight on the probability that a 210/228 would get national merit since a 210/240 did?

220 for CA for sure. that’s what my S got :slight_smile:

@trig2017 I mean I could be wrong but a lot of people on here are saying the states with lower scores will get lower vice versa. But considering that the concordance tables don’t help much, I have to say no one knows and all of our predictions could be wrong. But if the SI was the same or lower, then you’re fine!

You’re OK unless there is an asterisk by your selection index. My son is a junior, too, and it also shows “4” int that box. I’m guessing that means 4 by the time he graduates. :slight_smile:

10th Grader: R30(-14) W34(-4) M29(ran out of time: omitted a lot lol :() 1220 in total and SI:186

94th percentile

Anyone wanna take a guess for Washington’s cutoff score? We’re usually pretty high, judt behind CA and VA

201 for Ohio?

Hey guys I’m in Tennessee and I got a 1420/210. Could anyone please tell me how good my chances are for commended AND for semifinalist?

@garysho2 Lol right? I’m not sure if CB is being very generous considering it’s the first year of the new test, or the 99th percentile only guarantees lower cutoff states.

I’m a junior in NJ with a 1470 and an SI of 221. I feel like the cutoff will be a point or two higher than my score, but oh well.
