**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

What’s the lowest score as of right now that doesn’t have an asterisk next to it on the report?

Let me put this into perspective on how unfair collegeboard and national merit corporation are. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE $$$$$. Every year only 50,000 students are selected to participate in the national merit program no matter how many people attend. That means statistically if more people took the test then it is much harder to get a certain amount of students to be in the top 1% and even then this number is to only be 50,000. Now has anybody asked where does all the money go to? We had nearly another 1 million students sign up for the psat this year than last year. On average this test was 15$ and a person a pop equates to quite a hefty sum of money. My question is why doesn’t college board allow more than 50,000 students and use its new sum of money to use as scholarship money? Oh yea cuz its easier to put in their own pockets. ^:)^ %-(

I got a 210 too and nobody seems to know. @mkumar17

Can someone please help…so I just went on the PSAT score website and under “Entry Requirements” under “number of years spent in grades 9-12” it says 4??? should I contact them and tell them it’s 3? because I know you can only be eligible for NM if you’re a junior. if someone could help me out that’s be great because I’m freaking out!

Texas junior with a 1450 and a 217 SI. The Texas cut off was 220 last year. Do you think I have a chance for semi finalist?

@MALABARCOAST2014 It’s cause people are saying their cut-offs are wrong and the cut-off for California will actually be 221 or at least 219. But idk, it’s all a guessing game at this point.

I think I may have written in the wrong answer for the basic requirements part of the NMSQT form…
Where it says, “Number of years spent in grades 9-12” I wrote in 4. I’m a junior - should I have written 3?
If so, what should I do to correct this? My score was decent and I think I would have a shot at being at least commended - if I hadn’t made this mistake :frowning: I feel so stupid.

u in TN? @destined4harvard

@BunnyBlue Something simply is not right about the concordance tables, or else something is off with the percentiles that we are being given with our scores.

A 1390 is the lowest score this year to be in the 99th percentile. If you go to the concordance table, you will see that it converts to a score of 204 on last year’s test. But if you go to last year’s booklet, “Understanding the PSAT,” a score of 204 is in the 97th percentile. So how does a score that is in this year’s 99th percentile convert into last year’s 97th percentile using the concordance chart they supplied. It does not make sense to me.

Dudes, the wording reads “Number of years to be spent”. The grad year and the number of years to be spent will tell them whether you are eligible for the National Merit program.

@fgdsfgsdfg I agree but CB is a huge company and it’s not their scholarships that students want the most, it’s usually the free-ride scholarships or other major $$$ that are part of the program. That is what a lot of people in my town want.

Also, I like your username, it really helps me understand the intensity of your rant and that you started typing randomness out of frustration.

@lamebridge @collgefreak I put 4 too. I’m pretty sure it asked the duration we plan to spend in high school.

I’m a sophomore with a 1360 and I have a 99%. I wish I would have studied, as I forgot all of Algebra II, but at least this score is not for NMS. I am using it to apply to Penn’s summer program, however, but I am not nervous. I hope to do better next year, study hard, and win!

What will the cutoff be for California? Is a 222 high enough?

Ahhh…okay, thank you!
@YoohooAddict

Wait so if there is no star next to your selection index, does that mean you are eligible for NMSF?

@Spencek is 99th percentile from the national percentile or from your grade?

@EarlVanDorn @BunnyBlue My thoughts exactly.

My guess is that the national percentile in current score report is a bogus.

@GrandBudapest Are you serious? If you think a 222/228 is high enough, you are crazy…

OF COURSE ITS HIGH ENOUGH!!!

NP @lamebridge That’s what I was wondering @garyasho2
