Upon further research, yes, no asterisk simply means you are a four year HS student, a Junior, and a citizen of the United States.
@YoohooAddict I think asterisks are only those who do not meet the requirements for NM, such as being in 9th-10th grade or not being a US citizen.
Cause I am a sophomore and I got a 221*
It’s probably premature to guess at the state cutoff scores. Many are saying that the new PSAT was easier than the old one, so its possible there will still be a pretty high selection index corresponding to the top .5% of each state.
I sure hope the Testmaster’s and PrepScholar’s predictions are accurate. They just seem to low to be true imo, but maybe if we look outside of CC, kids didn’t score as well which would bring down the overall threshold.
Testmasters (CA): 209-213
PrepScholar (CA): 210
Would be awesome if they were true but I doubt it…do they say how they came up with these numbers btw?
does anyone know the absolute average score is?
And actually the cc scores probably ARE a better indicator than the general populous, since the selection index scores represent the tippy top performers and more of them will be represented here.
Was this the first year that there was no penalty for guessing? If so, maybe that would account for some higher scores.
@JuicyMango what did you get on the PSAT? I have a gut feeling that CA will be 218+ out of 228
Good point about the guessing. No penalty would increase scores, as more would guess with no risk.
@JuicyMango I don’t think those are likely due to the way the found them (just making a ratio and solving), the people on the thread are right, and we should rather base our scores off of the concordance chart which is directly from college board.
@fisisk K thanks
@stresstasticlife Yeah, I also have a sinking feeling that the cut-off is going to be 218 or 219. I don’t think it will crawl into the 220+ zone as other’s are guessing, but I have a bad feeling I’m gonna barely miss it by 1 or 2 points.
I got a 217 :(.
i have a 214 SI and I dont have an asterisk. Is having an asterisk good or bad?
sorry i posted this before i finished reading all the answers
@JuicyMango don’t lose hope! I had a gut feeling that I would bomb the PSAT but I didn’t so don’t trust my gut feelings LOL…yeah I keep dreading that it’s gonna be 223 or something crazy
@fisisk But ppl already pointed out that the concordance chart is a bit fishy…the 99th percentiles from both tests dont match, and it just seems inaccurate and hastily made to me. I don’t really know how they made that chart anyways.
It it required to be in the 99th percentile to get national merit, I’m from Nebraska and have a 202
Watch the cut-offs for the most competitive places (MA, CA, DC, etc.) be 225+
@GrandBudapest Nah…guys we just have to calm down. The cut-off’s are based off of OUR scores not some random number that CB puts up. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen many people with 220+…it may seem like a hundred people on this thread got that score, but that’s just it - a 100 people. Which isn’t enough to have a huge influence on the cut-off so who knows.
I got an 1100 as a score. I’m a sophomore and I didn’t study. Is this a very low score? I’m usually an A+ student
