**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@Waldoizhere Congrats!! You should be psyched, because now you are a participant in the largest merit based scholarship program in the country. Like I said, almost all semifinalists become finalists. Study for the SAT and get a reasonable score and make sure your school completes their paperwork and your in. I have no doubt you will become a finalist.

Predicted cutoffs for washington state anyone?

@Waldoizhere “Nixon couldn’t have won. Everyone I know voted for McGovern.” (You may have to look that up).

@jerzmaster maybe you posted it already but im too lazy to go look for it. Did you take the test last fall and if you did what did you get? warning: if you say perfect i will find you, and i will kill you (joking! Or am i?)

@EarlVanDorn poignant my friend. Very poignent.

I took the test 25 years ago. My daughter took the test this year and last year when she was a sophomore.

@jerzmaster well that was a screw up. How’d your daughter do? Well I hope!!!

@EarlVanDorn Great Quote!!! Should be given to about half of the students posting on this thread today. Also, great job compiling scores. I looked at your tables and they were very helpful.

@Waldoizhere My daughter scored a 219 last year. This year she scored 1480, so we are all very excited too!

I’m still super excited… just posting stuff and researching since I can’t sleep yet!

@jerzmaster congratulations! Your daughter should be extremely proud of herself. 1480 is no small feat! I have no doubt she’ll make nmf. I totally agree with @EarlVanDorn about his quote. Realize how stupid i was. My friend was talking to me about her score and kept saying that she wouldn’t tell me what it was because it was terrible. I kept pestering her and I finally pried it out of her with the warning “Don’t judge me its garbage.” She got a 1490

Thank you. Many of the students posting today don’t realize how gifted they are because they are comparing themselves to other students posting near perfect scores. There will be scholarships galore available to all of you. Best of luck… I think I’ve worn myself out and will go to sleep.

So, for California’s semifinalist cutoff this year, what is the predicted number? Will a 221, 1470 make it?

@aron Your compilation of results is especially helpful, I think, in understanding how the 2015 index will run relative to prior years. From http://www.bernardsboe.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_3096886/File/Jill%20Shadis/Ridge%20Counseling/Standardized%20Testing/Understanding%202014%20PSAT-NMSQT%20Scores.pdf it seems that the 2014 national 99th percentile threshold was 213. While the 2015 index depends on subject splits, it seems that all 2015 test takers with an index of 206+ have a total score that rates in the 99th percentile (1370+).

That national-to-national profile comparison suggests that state qualifying scores probably will drop relative to 2014.

i…giv up… i hate thinking…
all these predictions are making my head hurt HAHA

I think the cutoff for California this year will be a 1470, @appgodxoxo, but I may be mistaken. I’m basing it off of last year’s curves, but there is a chance that this test was either easier or harder for the majority of California students. For example, I know that California students in particular are generally better at math than reading/writing, so since reading and writing are being weighted more heavily for this test, the curve may be slightly lower. We won’t know until September.

I only got 1460 with an index of 219 and live in California, do you think I’ll make it?

predictions for a 1420, 212 SI, and 99% in california?

Here is list of fellow sufferers without scores. Feel free to add your state and region and re-post the list if you also still can’t access the 2015 results.
