@destined4harvard I think I read the link you are talking about concerning the 213 Kentucky cutoff. The guy is not a clear writer. What I think he was saying was that the cutoff was going to be lower on the new scale, but if we were using last year’s scale it would rise to 213. If that is indeed what he was trying to say, I would flunk him if he were my English student.
I think you are all such overachievers, so you all came here to figure out if you made the cut. When you all gathered and heard of each others high scores, you started doubting the special significance of your score and percentile. You began conspiracizing and thinking it was maybe too good to be true. But in reality, you probably all represent the top 99% and NMSF and there is nothing to worry about.
@buffalo11 — are you a junior or a sophomore? If a junior, then I confess that I am surprised that you have a 1470 and an SI of 203 - am I correct in reading this? My son had 1470 & a 218 & I thought his SI was amongst the lowest for a 1470. A 203 might be a “commended” level – not sure but should learn in April – but I do think the NY cut-off score for NM semi-finalists which recently has been 218-219 will most likely be higher than that though we will not know for sure till September. Hang in there. And remember PSAT does not really matter much - does not go to any colleges.
What are the odds that any state’s cutoff is above a 223?
@CA1543 Sorry must be a mix up. When I asked if the 1470 was for NMSF or commended that was in response to another person’s comment about that being the cut off, I was trying to ask which cut off that was for. I received a 1360 and 203 SI.
@CGlynn I don’t think that’s likely at all, but who knows.
@buffalo11- I don’t think 147/203 is possible. Let’ see.For example,if you get perfect score of English, your math score will be 710
. SI 203 -152(R+W)=51. 710 and 51 isn’t matched. Any kind of combination can’t make 1470/203. I think you made a typo.
I still haven’t gotten my score, this is freakin unbelievable!!!
@buffalo11 – thanks for the clarification. Hopefully you will be commended - 203 is good (I think there is a chance for sure!). NY has a high cutoff for the semi-finalists though - was 218-219 – now could be a little lower but I am doubtful it would go to 203 - sorry about that. But I think reading the whole PSAT report and seeing what you can improve on and making a plan with Khan Academy or otherwise would really help you get an even stronger SAT score which would be good. This is just the beginning.
@dongrae Yes, I wasn’t saying that was my score. Someone mentioned that 1470 was the cut off and I was asking if it was for NMSF or Commended.
@buffalo11- Sorry. I misread.
NMSF Cutoffs:
I believe this newly updated score prediction cutoffs essentially covers what we talked about before in the past, how the old high cutoffs would likely be lower this year, old low cutoffs would be higher this year, and the middle cutoffs would stay around the same. I would read the rationale and how they came up with the scores. The new predictions are in the “Projected Cutoff” sections. I think this may be accurate. What do you guys think?

@garyasho2 thanks for posting! those seem quite accurate. really helpful, thanks again
LOL I feel stupid but when ie the cutoff is 219
does this mean including 219 is semifinalist qualified or cutting off people with 219 or below
@songmino p sure it includes 219
THANK GOD omg

I got 1440 with a 216 NMSC Index. I’m in MD. Do you think I made the cut?
Based on all the posts, I think that 98.5 percentile nationally is a NMSC Index of around 205… plus or minus a few. Extrapolating a little, a NMSC Index of 210 is approximately 99.0 percentile nationally. Since they choose around the top 1% from each state, kids from states that usually score below the national average on the PSAT may be good with scores between 200-210.
@legaleagle1 Maryland typically scores higher than the national PSAT averages, so I think you’ll have to score better than 210. I don’t know if this is good news or not, but I think your score will force you to wait till September to know for sure. I think you are close.
