^ Probably they are in different grades.
users are sample of kids who actually took the test…the other included all high school kids so the User number is what the NMSC will use
I still didn’t get my scores but just emailed my guidance counselor.
How do you view the individual percentiles? I only see the combined R+W percentile…
Has anyone tried this?
While we are at comparing this year’s scores to past year’s…
now that I have 3 section percentiles, (I don’t know how I missed it before)
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19165522/#Comment_19165522
if I take these 3 “user percentiles” and go to past year’s data,
http://www.bernardsboe.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_3096886/File/Jill Shadis/Ridge Counseling/Standardized Testing/Understanding 2014 PSAT-NMSQT Scores.pdf
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2vOnl4vyKt7Mm0wYm80LUtqaW8/view?pref=2&pli=1
and find a section score (average, if there is a range) for that percentile, I expect to find corresponding past year’s score.
I think the resulting score should agree with “concordance table” score. What else can the concordance table be?
But it does not agree.
So I agree that the concordance table is funky and “preliminary” but I think the %iles they are giving us is also “preliminary.”
What do you get for yours if you use %iles and 2014 data file?
I get
2015% 2014 2013 Concordance T('15)
R 92 64 64 60
W 96 67 68 63
M 99 77 77 77
SI 205 208 209 200
I know some other people have concluded that a 210 SI is the cutoff nationally and some have said maybe 207…
but using the USER Scores, must use USER… for each of Math, Read and Write I am coming to a number that is closer to 214, as follows
Math 37
Read 35 or 36 (lets us 35 for the euqation below
write 35
add together and multiple by 2 …37+35+35=107x2=214
I just want to point out that if you click the little “i” icon next to the percentiles, it says the “percentiles are derived via a research study sample of U.S. students in the 11th grade, weighted to represent …” So, all the percentiles that we are reading so much into are based on a sample that is clearly much smaller than 2 million kids (and less motivated to do well).
It is likely that the preliminary concordance tables are also based on the percentiles from this “research study” (though some people see funky differences indicating they may be based on different data sets). The actual percentiles that come out (April?) could be very different from what the score report shows. In fact, I would not be surprised if 120 and 121 (maybe even 122) turn out to be not a sure thing in all states. I still agree with earlier speculation that they made the test too easy at the high end with not enough granularity.
My kid is a junior and got 99% for 35 CR. Others are now reporting 97% for the same score. I don’t see how a 207 can be 99% if that is true and it’s also true that only 36 on W and 37 on M is 99%. Or am I just missing something here?
are you using the “User” numbers?
which are generaly 1 point lower
Yes.
Any thoughts as to whether 219 is gonna make it in NJ?
So basically, folks now think scores are going to be higher than last year across the board despite the lower score range? That just doesn’t seem correct. And we are discounting report that 207 SI was in 99th percentile as reported by someone’s GC? This is all a mess and just making us all more nervous. I may need to disappear until at least April. lol
that is interesting …maybe some Sophmores are repoting data…What are the rest of the scores your child has
this might be helpful too…a 34 R + 37 W = 71 or 710 read and write, which is 99th User…this along with your report of 35 being 99th User…leads me to believe a 35 R + 35 W and 37 M is the number or again 214…
CR - 32 - 92nd user percentile
Combine with W - 36 - 99th user percentile
Equals 98th user percentile(99th sample)
Daughter got 99% across the board for user. 35 CR, 37 W, 37.5 M for SI of 219.
I don’t think the 207 was every right…213 was the number last year…this year it may be 212 or 214…
32 -92nd
36 -99th
37 -99th
1420 -99th
210 -???
@itsgettingreal17 and @frogschool and others – I just figured out how to get the percentiles for each of the 3 subscores (had not noticed what to clickon!) for each of Reading, Writing & Math. I have a junior. 35 in Reading = 97%ile, 36 in writing = 99%ile. 710 in combined Reading/Writing = 99th%ile. that’s what I can tell. (He got a 38 is math so 99%ile)
that is likely high enought to meet the national numbers, but who knows about your state.
so I am pretty certain that 35 is the lowest 99th for Read, as my kid had a 34 and it was 95th…the 37 number for math seems to be consistent from many posts and my kid had a 36 and it was 98th
So that just leave writing which I am not sure about, but likley a 35…so again 35+35+37=107x2=214
