Did anyone who was accepted receive notification of a merit award for a national recognition program? The website lists a $1000 merit award and my kid would seem to qualify but we haven’t heard anything from Purdue yet.
Yes, my kid got that with her acceptance. She is a NMSF. That was the only merit she received. We’re OOS.
same here. my guess is you haven’t listed Purdue as your first choice on NMSC aaplication.
Not the NMSF, this is the National Recognition Program which encompasses Africa American, Hispanic, and Rural and Small Town honorees. Those are collectively referred to as National Recognition Programs. He did list his award on his application, and it seems Purdue’s scholarship website lists merit for these awards(unless I have this incorrect).
I would reach out to the admissions office and ask, as you are correct and the NRP is still listed under freshman scholarships.
Yes, we plan to reach out to admissions, just wanted to get a sense of whether others also were in the same boat or not. Thanks.
FYI you can still change that with NMF.
When classes get tough I think it’s helpful to work with a group, so the LLC sounds like a good idea . Also would make a large school feel smaller.
Can a business major change their major within the business school? TIA
Yes, but there is a process: Program: Pre-Business Major Change (CODO) Requirements - Purdue University - Acalog ACMS™.
I’m much more familiar with CoE so hopefully another parent with direct experience in the College of Business will also chime in.
Thank you for the page link. My son was admitted to a new major- it’s the perfect fit for his interests - but it’s not listed on that link. I want to make sure there is some flexibility if he ends up wanting to pursue a different concentration later on.
Since it’s a new program, have your potential Boiler send an email and ask. My experience in contacting Purdue is that everyone is super receptive to questions!
For others who may be interested, here is the link to business concentrations: Concentrations - Purdue Business
And, business minors: Minors - Purdue Business
In engineering, it was seamless to add a concentration, which usually happens junior year. I would think it would be similar in the CoB
thank you. i believe the deadline is May 1st.
This was mentioned during an engineering information session we just had recently on WL campus. It is a HUGE incentive to choose the Indy campus as an option. Our D24 elected to apply to WL only for honors and the strong WIE club, so she is thrilled to be accepted!!
We have the same situation. We discovered that on the scholarships page, it lists when the scholarships are awarded and the NRP scholarship is automatic but not included in the admissions letter. It appears that it will be awarded at a later date.
We are going to wait a bit before inquiring, but please post again if you find out any details.
Ohhhh, Ok. Now that I think about it, my daughter was recognized in that program under the Rural category. We moved after her 10th grade to a much bigger community in a different state so I wasn’t sure that recognition would follow her. I guess it did!
DS accepted to FYE]

Swimmer (HS captain, club)
Lifeguard
After applying on a bit of a whim, he’s pretty stoked and now seriously considering attending.
Visit planned in March. He’s been obsessed with space his entire life and after seeing so many interested in aerospace on this thread, he might find his people there!
So appreciate the advice I’m reading about housing, LLC. Did not apply to HC.
Have to check on merit, I actually haven’t seen his letter yet
LLCs occupy designated spaces in a variety of dorms. Being in an LLC usually means you get one of those designated spaces—the whole floor or several floors will be in the same LLC. Everyone else is assigned something in the rooms Housing has held back for incoming students while attempting to take into account the type of housing your student ranked by preference (preference not guaranteed). For example, the Band and Orchestra Engineering LLC was in Shreve, so if you got into that LLC you lived in Shreve on particular floors. Data Mine was in Hillenbrand. There were students not in an LLC in those buildings too.
Lots of great group study options (formal and informal) for engineering so don’t fret if you don’t apply or get into an LLC.
Interesting. So for Engineering study/work would it actually be better to be in an LLC instead of the Honors dorm?
