Purdue Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Has anyone received acceptance after submitting LOCI, I saw in the last few year they sometimes send decision in couple of days after submitting

I wouldn’t count on hearing anything until the regular decision round decisions are released. That’s usually March. Last year, some didn’t hear until the very end of March, but I am not sure if those were RD or waItlisted applicants.

What hotels are the closest to the campus for the Purdue and me? Recomendations?

S24 and I stayed at the Union Club hotel right on campus last spring and it worked out great.

The Marriott Union Club Hotel is actually on campus. Uber convenient, but pricey.

Our go to hotels are at the bottom of State St which is still walkable to campus, albeit up hill. Hampton Inn and the Hilton Garden Inn

There is also the Holiday Inn Lafayette which is a bit further but also walkable.

Closest is the Union Club Hotel, which is literally part of the PMU, but its expensive compared to others in the area. We like the Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden Inn (across the street from each other) at Tapawingo and South. Still easily walkable to campus

I’ve also heard great things about the Whittaker Inn but it’s not walkable.

Avoid the Four Points Sheridan at all costs.

Any suggestions on what an admitted student should ā€œdefinitelyā€ check out while visiting Purdue at West Lafayette? We will be staying 2 nights before the admitted students day b/c of travel scheduling. I’m hoping that’s enough time to get a good feel of the school and area.

Aside form taking the tour and the major specific tour, take a walk through downtown Lafayette and Chauncey (the Purdue college town), eat in a dining hall, walk around campus (it’s large), etc…

Hello! Who in the group plan on attending the 23 Feb Admitted Student Event and Honors College event the next day? Also, for the current Purdue families - what is a must see or must do? We are staying at the Marriott on Campus and are also going to the basketball game the night before. We are getting the full experience! We are from the Mid-Atlantic and are flying in.

Wow, a basketball game approaching March Madness should be a great way to get the game atmosphere!

It’ll be somewhat random, but there are constantly activities where clubs or research have a showcase or display going on in an academic building lobby (Armstrong, WALC, Lambertus). If you are the extroverted type, ask the students about what they are showing, and then ask for their Purdue experience (my son was able to talk to a few members of PSP because they happened to be doing some kind of poster session on some AAE research)

Also take a walk through the Co-Rec to get a feel for workout/activity facilities available to students. If you have extra time and they aren’t fully booked, the Union Rack and Roll (bowling) in the PMU basement is pretty fun.

If anyone in the group is a walker/runner, there’s a nice section of the Wabash Heritage Trail down along the river for a morning outing.

I’m feeling pretty confused about the Indy campus. My daughter was admitted to Biomedical Engineering at Indy. She doesn’t remember designating on the application that she was interested in that campus - perhaps she misunderstood. That said, is her acceptance dependent on her attending in Indy or would she be able to switch to the WL campus? If she did designate interest in the Indy campus, I guess we’ll always wonder if she might have gotten into WL had she not done that.

The FAQ page about Indy says this: "We are developing a process to manage change of major and/or change of location that will depend on space availability. "

IMO, it’s pretty vague and I think the language has been already changed.

The one advantage you have at the Indy campus is that I believe your D has direct admission to BME, which is one of the most competitive engineering majors to transition to.

You can check your common app to see if you opted in

I am glad we stayed at the Union Club during Purdue For Me, because we found we either could never afford it again ($600/night at drop off & pick up dates) or it books up far, far in advance (for parents’ weekend and graduation). The Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn are our usual choices. They often book up pretty early too.

I have been going to Lafayette for years. The hotel choices have expanded. The PMU Marriott is lovely. LOVELY. Rooms are tiny. TINY. Other Marriott choices are 15 minutes away in Lafayette off of Interstate 65, where you will also find the range of Choice brand hotels, the Hilton brand hotels, IHG brand hotels, Wyndham brands and Best Western.

I like the Drury, which is a St. Louis-based Midwest chain. Courtyard, Residence Inn and Home2 are reliable as well. Doubletree is also popular. Homewood Suites were meh. TownPlace Suites were gross. Haven’t done the super budget spots.

The Holiday Inn downtown has had bed bug issues this fall according to other parents and is overdue for a refresh. The Four Points someone else warned about (correctly from what I’ve heard from others) has been rebranded a LaQuinta when i last drove by a month ago.

If you are committing to Purdue, look at the Boiler Gold Rush orientation start dates and book your August hotel now. The football schedule is already out so much of the fall is already booked or expensive.

The basketball game will be amazing!!! It’s Rutgers, which has been a thorn the past couple seasons. The atmosphere has been epic this season and there is no such thing as a bad seat in the arena. Get there early to enjoy the vibe. The band gets going, there’s a ton of food and drink on the concourse, and seeing all the kids fill the student section with silly suits on and signs is fun. (If feeling ā€œwhen in Rome,ā€¦ā€ get the breaded pork cutlet sandwich, which everyone in Indiana seems to have a version of)

Hit the University Bookstore on State Street across from Rawls and then hit the Follett’s Bookstore at Aspire (other end of State AKA Mitch Daniels Blvd) for nice swag. Follett’s has higher end stuff and more stuff. Team Store on Northwestern is good, too. Discount Den on Stadium Ave has great variety of t shirts.

Baked By Brittany just opened a new location on Northwestern Ave on campus. Cheesecake is wonderful and they’ve expanded beyond their sweet treats in the new space (haven’t tried the non sweets yet)

Lafayette pretty quickly turns to countryside but there are some great varieties of food around town so look for what you like–probably will find a version of it in this college town.

Drury is really nice. We stayed there twice on our campus visits to Purdue in 2022 and 2023 (Admitted Students Day). You will need to have a car however.

Walk into campus buildings and roam around. Find the Jedi Room (I think it’s in Beering.) There’s a meat store on the Ag campus! There’s a hilarious Surplus Store with all kinds of odds and ends for sale. Go bowling at the union. Walk from the Union down to Silver Dippers Ice Cream near River Road to see some of the Chauncey neighborhood. Weather permitting, keep on walking and take the pedestrian bridge to downtown Lafayette.

Sit in the Union and people watch. Ride the Boilermaker Special (check their social media).

Wondering if essays including discussion of career goal of working in automotive industry tipped the scale toward that major in Indy.
