Purdue Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Think Purdue will add any more visiting dates? All the dates seem to be full.

Last Friday they were sent early by mistake, I don’t expect anyone will get emails today until decisions are out around 5 pm

I haven’t seen any of the portal changes that were heavily discussed back in January, either.

I believe my son is moving on from Purdue if he doesn’t hear today. He’s tired of them dragging it out and is feeling frustrated. At this point, he would prefer to be rejected than to continue not having a decision.

We are in state and Purdue has been his first choice forever. He has excellent stats…ACT in the 98 percentile, all A’s in high school while taking a rigous courseload including 14 AP/Dual Credit Classes, Valedictorian, lots of extracurriculars, 4 year varsity athlete, 2-time captain, 3-time all-state academic, etc.

I know stats aren’t everything, but it’s frustrating to see OOS kids with lower stats than him getting into FYE. Many Indiana residents’ consensus is that Purdue is prioritizing OOS candidates in competitive majors because they are getting $20K more per student and people are happy to pay it for such a prestigious program. Unfortunately, there are no other great options for engineering in Indiana, so we now have to pay OOS tuition somewhere else.

We feel your pain here. My OOS DS is likewise moving on (organically) as decisions are delayed - good or bad as he simply wants an answer. Solid stats, high interest in Purdue but has come to the conclusion that deferral was a soft rejection. Good luck to yours!

I also note the continued discussion in each flagship universities forum about the prioritization of OOS. Painful as it is I see the value of OOS within a student body.

Best of luck. I hope you do hang in there. Your kiddo sounds exactly like a Purdue student. I’m not sure what all goes into the decisions made, but your kiddo has a bright future.

Here in CA we see OOS and International prioritized all the time. We also see applications exceeding 100,000 to our schools.

The waiting is extremely hard. The duration of this process is long and acceptances may be in hand for many, many months before others come out. My son has some as late as April 1, but has other schools asking him to commit, daily.

Don’t give up hope! Last year a number of students were admitted in mid March. Fingers crossed for all students still waiting on a decision.

we still have 3 fridays left if we dont get a decision today, 2 if you assume that the last batch is only waitlists/rejections. Im holding out hope, I agree its very hard to wait though

Thank you! He will do great things no matter where he goes. He’s planning to do a sport in college, but it’s not one where the coaches get any pull with admissions. He has a spot at Purdue if he gets accepted, but also has a spot at his second-choice school. He fears losing that second choice spot if he waits another 3-4 weeks as they are actively trying to complete their roster and pressing him for an answer.

He called Purdue Monday asking to expidate his decision based on that information, even if it lessens his chances at getting accepted. They told him they would put a note on his file, but couldn’t guarantee a decision before March 31. Praying he gets a decision today, even if he’s rejected.

I will pray that as well. I do hope my son also gets a decision from Purdue today, either way. He still has three application decisions to go, and it would be nice to have a clear answer from two of them today so he can go into his Spring Break visitations without wonder. His reach school releases on April 1, so I’m sure it would not have a big impact on his visitations.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Purdue will be putting out decisions today, though.

We are done today if we don’t hear, for the same sports reason. Only difference with us is, he does NOT have a spot at Purdue, but does have a spot at another school. He would go to Purdue without being on the team jus to go to Purdue, but he’s not risking losing his spot at the other school while Purdue sits on his decision.

My son was deferred EA and the waiting is horrible. Purdue and another school are his top choices and not knowing is tough. He would be a FYE (OOS) but at this point he wants to know sooner than later, so he can move on. Good luck to everyone.

What makes you think they won’t have decisions today? I really hope they release another set.

I don’t see and I haven’t heard of any changes in the portal.

Scroll up to Jan 10. There are about a thousand posts regarding deciphering portal changes and what it could mean…

I think last week was a mishap and we won’t see anything until around 5 PM tonight.

Correct. There were changes then. I do not see changes since the EA decision in my kiddo’s portal.
