Purdue doesnât seem to be asking for a resume, can a student expand on any other activities on Common app>Additional information?

This is from a purdue event nearby that my son attended:
OOS Engineering
Applications: 24618 Admitted: 8637
Middle 50% ACT: 31-35 SAT:1390-1530 GPA: 3.88-3.99
Assume this is still from 2023. GPA seems high, not sure how they recalculate.

My son doesnât like his SAT scores and he will retake SAT on Oct 5. Would it be too late to apply after he get the result? If he submits common application before the new scores come out, is it possible to self-report the new SAT scores by November 1st? How long it takes from submitting common application to Purdue thinking the application is complete? I believe it is immediately, but I donât want to be surprised.
Personally I would try to wait for the new score before submitting because if your student applies before hand, they will be forced to self report the old score since Purdue requires the test.
If there is a delay in receiving the score, make sure your student hits the 11/1 deadline, even if it means submitted the old score. They can update with the new score later.

I believe scores can be updated on the portal. somebody who applied last year or who has portal access this year can confirm.

Apply under EA and meet the deadline of 01 November. Report old scores if new scores not available by then. From Purdue websiteâŠ

To meet a specific deadline, all required materials must be received by that date. Once you submit an online application, youâll receive an email with information about your online applicant portal. Use the portal to identify what material is required to complete your application and to confirm that we have received it.
In short, submit the application a few days before 01 Nov deadline and make sure ALL required materials are also submitted.

Can we select CS in West Lafayette as 1st major and CS in Indianapolis as alternate major⊠What is the essay to be put for alternate major in that case
DS will be applying OOS for CS Major in the EA round. He has a 3.9UW GPA for grades 9-11, a 1540 SAT score and average ECs (eagle scout, bunch of long-term volunteer activities, part-time job teach kids coding etc). He has 6 APs by grade 11 with all 5âs and plans to take 4 more this year. He doesnât have any noteworthy awards. How are his chances for Purdue or similar schools like UW-Madison, Maryland etc?
I am not sure. It seemed last year that nearly anyone who expressed an interest in Indianapolis got Indianapolis, though. Obviously it was a new program and Purdue was trying to fill it (which they successfully did). I donât know what that means for this year.

He is in the ballpark for both Purdue and UW-Madison.
Purdue is a direct admit to CS, whereas at UW-M students are accepted for CS, but technically enter the major pending first year grades.

From Purdue website
âStudents apply to Purdue using the Common Application. You will have the opportunity to select the primary location you would like: Purdue University West Lafayette or Purdue University in Indianapolis, as well as your primary major. You will also have the option to select an alternate location and major on the application.
Not all majors will be available at both locations, and you should select an alternate choice only if you are truly interested in the program. Changing majors or locations is never guaranteed.â
My understanding is that you can select CS as your primary major and WL campus as your primary campus. If you select the Indy campus as an alternate location, you will be considered for CS in Indy in case they cannot offer you a spot in CS at the WL campus. You can also select an alternate major that is different from CS, and they will consider your alternate major if they are unable to admit you to your primary major.
I suggest conducting your own research and only selecting an alternate campus location and major if you are prepared to accept an offer to join.

Congrats to your son! How is he enjoying Purdue and what business major? My son is Fall 2026, but interested in with FYE/Engineering or IBE/Integrated Business and Engineering. I love these forums which are such a huge help.
Did housing go smoothly this year? I heard the prior year there was overcrowding, but sounded like there were some new residence halls that opened this year and issue fixed.

Question regarding SAT submission. My daughter recently applied and listed her SAT sueprscore on the common app. Is that all that needs to be done for the app review process? ie just Common app report? Official scores only need to be sent if accepted? She is taking the SAT one last time this weekend and was hoping to wait for those scores, but in the end didnât want to cut it too close. THANKS!

Yes, my understanding is that Purdue allows for self reporting scores, and they do superscore. Your child would only need to send the official report if she decides to matriculate.

S24 is liking Purdue. He wants to major in Econ and Finance. Freshmen are guaranteed housing. Due to larger than usual class size, many people got triple room (instead of double or single). They also converted some of doubles to tripes. New residence halls are expected to also open up in 2025 and 2026. Purdue has said that next year they will manage incoming class size. They are working on improving the Housing allotment process. Good luck to your son for Fall 2026
