Purdue University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

My D applied for CS/FYE as (First/Second) choice major in West Lafayette and She got deferred to RD . They gave another option to change the Location to Indianapolis location and they will give early decision. They didn’t mention which major they will give in Indianapolis
Stats : OOS, SAT-1550 , GPA :UW-4.0 , W-5.32 , AP-8 , Major (First/Second)- CS /FYE

Should we wait till RD decision ? or Is it worth to change the location and move ahead with Indianapolis . Seeking advise, please suggest.

Ohh… So does it make Engineering courses (such as Mechanical) generally easier to get into as compared to other courses at Purdue?

I’m not entirely sure what you are asking?

3.2 is the threshold for guaranteed admission for all the competitive engineering majors, with the exception of BME which has a couple of other hurdles because it’s a very small major. The non competitive majors have a lower threshold for guaranteed admission. Purdue is not like schools like TAMU which have a very high bar for transitioning to major. Purdue feels like they’ve done the initial screening for success during the admission process to the university.

Once in your major, you will be able to get the classes you need to graduate in 8 semester. They may not necessarily be at your preferred time, but you’ll get into the course you need to stay on track to graduate.

DS accepted to BS in AI major with Presidents Scholarship; OOS, 4.0/4.7, 13 APs, 34 ACT, 1500 SAT, decent ECs including lots of research; applied for honors but surprised it wasn’t even mentioned in the letter, even if just to say “thanks for applying, but…”

Thank you!

qwhat are the hurdles for BME. that is my daughter intended major

(Fye : Undergraduate Program : Academics - Biomedical Engineering - Purdue University)

Note: Our ranking system prioritizes Engineering Admissions Index (EAI) first and then cumulative GPA. The maximum capacity is determined by the number of available seats in our teaching labs. This number varies annually based on a variety of circumstances and is determined usually in January.

The link above also suggests courses to take if you are ahead with AP classes.

My understanding is that they’ll rank students by EAI if they are at capacity but there is contact information of the BME advisor at the bottom of the attached link that your student can reach out to if they have concerns.

The year my D transitioned to chem E, one of her friends who was above the 3.2 EAI did not get into BME and ended up doing an adjacent major. She’s doing her PhD now in BME so not having the exact major did not matter for her personal trajectory. That said, they’ve added quite a number of seats to the major and grown the program since then.

I’d encourage your child to reach out to the department and ask them for their transition to major statistics. I have a feeling it will put you more at ease!

I believe there are also other scholarships available on the portal and FAFSA announces soon too. Usually there are two scholarships in the admission letter which is the Presidential and Trustees. For in-state Presidential is half tuition I believe, and Trustee is full tuition. Probabally for OOS that translates to -5K for Presidential and -10k for Trustees. I believe they give way more scholarships to in-state but my son who is currently a senior said he has met MANY with Presidential throughout his years. I think Trustee is only 100 awarded.

CONGRATS! Thats HUGE! Indeed for undergrads it is hard to get in as an international! For Masters/PhD it’s much more common…so HUGE HUGE congrats! Excited for you!

Seems impossible you didn’t get in honestly! Maybe you are TOO GOOD! I’m sure with the exceptional stats you have you will get into many schools though, but if I were you I would definately write your admission counselor to ask. No deferral even? Seems so unfair. Did you put 2 major choices? CS and FYE are really tough to get into especially as out-of-state. Hang in there and hope to see this turn around for you!

WOWOWOW!! That so ultra impressive!!! Huge congrats on winning the jackpot for your twins. My son is a senior now at Purdue and ABSOLUTELY LOVES it! My son also got the Trustee scholarship and it has been a beautiful gift for four years…and yesterday my HS senior (the little sis) also got the Trustee scholarship. Be very proud because my son said in all his years at Purdue he has only met a handful of Trustees. He heard only 100 Trustee scholarships are given for each entry cycle (just word of mouth). Happy for your family! <3

Just an update! You were RIGHT! Her SAT was in the ballpark, and she was admitted into the College of Science for AI! She did retest too in October and it ended up going up 10 points to a 1440, which fit the bill I guess. It is also very helpful that she is an in-state applicant and the full IB also probably helps. Someone told her that they also look at the cohort scores in the high school heavily. Her highschool is public and within that school, a 1440 is very good. She is 7th of 500 so solid too…but really didn’t think she would get her first choice of for AI! She had put Polytech for 2nd choice. It was a jackpot day with Trustee and Honors college to boot. Thank you for giving us hope. You were right!!!

CS/FYE is an all or nothing combo. you can call them and ask if they can reconsider you for another major.

I was surprised there too, since you had to do extra for honors and “apply” they should give a definitive answer on the letter.

She did not list a second choice, and wondering if she would have been placed in it if she had. Does your daughter know what she will do? If she ends up at Miami, they already have a Snapchat group going of about 30 of so nursing students who had posted on the “roommate intro” IG feed for Miami. Good group so far!

DS denied yesterday for OOS FYE. 3.8uw/4.3w, 34 ACT, 8 APs, decent ECs. Purdue must have some incredible talent coming this year to be denying kids with these stats, as well as many of the others I see posting this morning. One factor that I’m sure hurt him: our OOS HS had over 100 kids apply to Purdue this year. Wow. Probably a challenge for anyone from a larger competitive HS.

Thanks for all your good info on Purdue. Do you know housing information regarding the Purdue Indianapolis campus for students starting Fall 2025? Thanks:)

You applied to other solid schools? With your stats, I’m sure you have choices. Could Purdue be your grad school down the road? Maybe even transfer mid under grad, if you really want it sooner? I’m surprised you didn’t get in. I do believe the admittance for OOS is lower than in state. Remember- you can succeed in many environments. You are clearly a good student. Purdue is great/ but there are advantages to being a bigger fish in a medium pond (as opposed to being an average fish in a giant lake).I hope you leverage your strengths wherever you start your college career… you’ve prepared well. You’re ready for any campus you choose.

I’m sorry I do not but hopefully we have some Indy campus parents on the site. That was brand new as of last cycle so my daughter graduated before that campus even opened.

If you really want to reach out, I’d ask my guidance counselor to but I know those people can be hit or miss. A school rep calling may not get you any answers either. They could drop the info that Purdue is your first choice and if admitted you’d attend, but don’t ask them to say that if it’s not true. Think and discuss how you’d make your case for admission differently. They guess wrong in admissions sometimes. People move on and people appeal. Both are OK responses.
