My son got admitted to FYE. He’s an international student.
Thank you! She has decided that between the two schools, UT Austin is a better fit. So she’ll no longer pursue Purdue. She doesn’t want to take up a possible spot for another student. Good luck to you!
I see momofboiler1 gave you some good intel! That’s all correct:-). FYE was tough but my son worked pretty hard and did very well his first year. He was on the fence between Aero and MechE, but ultimately chose ME. If you have the GPA, you’ll pretty much get your first choice. I believe you can’t rank Aero & ME #1 & #2. You have to choose a different option for #2. One of his best friends wasn’t going to have the GPA, so he chose IE and loves it, and has a really great internship this upcoming summer. So it works out!

Hey guys, just an update about the portal astrology bar stuff. I had the thin bar all the time (checked everyday since people started noticing). Accepted Econ at Daniel Business.
Chinese male (Canadian passport), IB 41/45, SAT 1490. IDK how people judge their essays or ECs but I DIYed everything by myself without agents.
Still don’t know how I got in honestly. I remembered last year they gave out about 25 EA to Chinese schools (including foreign passport holders) thats like the amount of offers gave out by Cornell.
Anyways, Asian people are on a more difficult application trail, cong to everyone who got in.
My tone is reflective of the admissions difficulty, not the quality of the school. 4% VS ~30% is very different. Purdue is one of my top choices for public schools.
hope i end up this way haha!!
Rejected from Purdue CS/FYE
Stats: 3.92 UW GPA, 1510 SAT, International (US Citizen)
Is it worth appealing? And should I go for the same major or switch to an easier one? Really hope to get into Purdue
UT Austin is a great school, best wishes to her!
I had 4 engineering/CS internships, 2 of which were at dell and pfizer
I started a business which generates five figures annually
3 research papers (granted, 2 of which were with friends and were not Electrical Engineering related)
I did FRC robotics as a lead for 4 years and went to state every year, even getting invited to coach a rookie FTC team my senior year
I definitely know ppl who did more but from the people at my school and people I know I think I am at least top 2ish % in ECs but I may be wrong
My recs were from good teachers who really liked me (one requested me to become a Teacher’s Assistant for him which I did), I also got my manager at Dell to do my outside rec and she really liked me, we became work/friends and are still in touch since we have common hobbies
Is it worth appealing and what’s that process like? Thanks!
what’s your course work like?? loads APs ? or more regular couses?? , yours is very strong and maybe they think u will not show up?
My IS daughter got accepted to her 2nd choice major at Purdue. Her first choice was Nursing. Did your daughter list a 2nd choice on her application? I’m curious if my daughter might have received a deferral if she hadn’t listed the 2nd choice. She also was admitted to nursing at Miami OH.
Wonder what the deadline is for deferrals to write their LOCI. On the form, it doesn’t specify a date. It only has a date for those who are interested to change their location from West Lafayette to Indianpolis. Please advise. Thanks.
I don’t understand and honestly I find it shocking. I wish you the best.
What a wonderful way to say this, I am going to use it myself because it’s so beautifully said.
In previous cycles, there was a wave of decisions released in mid February for deferred EA students so IMO, I’d send sooner rather than later. I don’t believe the university gives a deadline.
17 College Credits (Dual credit), 8 APs so a bit low on APs but I did dual credit classes to make up for it
22 Advanced classes over high school, pretty much every class other than Art/Basketball is Advanced, AP or College Credit
Oh well, wish me luck for UIUC lol
I gotta say this made me feel better about my son getting neither, but it is surprising to be honest because I can see no merit because maybe they think your child won’t come, but honors is what kids like ours are looking for. It surprised me given it was it’s own application of sorts no reference was given of thank you for applying but at this time…
