Question for Dean J

Dean J, it has only recently come to my knowledge that somewhere along the line my high school input an incorrect SS#, but only one number is incorrect. Is this a significant problem in correlating all of my documents, and if so what can I done to correct this?

Moose, as long as the correct SSN is on your application, you’re fine. There would be a problem if you had entered the wrong SSN on your application or financial aid documents.

Got it, thanks.

Question for Dean J:

Do you know how many of the 900 Jefferson Scholars who do not become finalists get accepted despite their termination in the competition?

thanks!

Dean J:
Could you speak to the waitlist issue as described in this post on another school site? I’ve cut and pasted…

“I could not really understand how the waitlist works. Students are supposedly made their choice by May 1st (unless admitted to ED). Harvard (and other schools) will not know the rate of matriculation until a few days after May 1st. If the rate of matriculation is lower than Harvard’s expectation, then some of the students on the waitlist will get called with an admission offer. Should those students drop the school that they have made choice on May 1st (violating their promise) and go to Harvard instead? That is not really encouraging the right behavior (which I consider violating a contract). Can someone provide some explanation?”

Momofbees, I don’t have data for you…the Jeff process is completely separate and I don’t regularly run reports on them.

Meakmom, the expectation is that a student won’t double deposit at any point. If they deposit at one school, then get off the waitlist at another, the understanding is that they will take themselves off the rooster at the first school when they deposit at the second.

Thank you for your reply. I was wondering if this nomination is of consideration during the application at all?

Of course, it’s noted when the student tells us about it, but the Alumni Association doesn’t tell us the name of every single nominated student. We’re aware of the finalists who come to Charlottesville.
