ohhh okay i mean how is the homework
The homework I would say is easy it’s mostly just the time it takes. It’s all reading really or watching a video or a sheet for your language.
ohhh okay thats easy
does Lawrenceville have any freshman teams like if you are completely new to a sport do you join JV straight away or there is a team for beginners?
There is just freshman lift which is just working out but the only sport I know of is basketball that does freshman every other sport you have to either try out for JV or VARSITY
Hi, just popping on here! I am a sophomore day student Lawrenceville '26 and am happy to answer any questions about athletics, academics, social life, etc. Congrats!
Boy’s Soccer has a freshman team, and B/G crew has a freshman/novice boat. Many sports offer teams that are beginner friendly, although there are very few at the freshman level. Are there any sports in specific that you are looking at?
i am looking at volleyball, squash and crew
u might wanna change ur username on here, bc i accidentally discovered u on a random private school tiktok
This is huge.
uhhhh okay
wait how do you change it
Hi
I wanted to add some bits to the conversation. My daughter is a freshman this year and loves lville. She has made a bunch of very nice friends and while she does say like anywhere there are some kids that are not the nicest. They are only a small group that tend to keep to themselves. There were some stories of some kids hooking up freshman year as at any school, but she feels like the majority of the girls are just having fun hanging out together as all the girls -day students, too, are all in the same dorm.
First trimester is definitely easier with 3/5 classes pass-fail, but the work picked up exponentially second semester. Additionally a sixth class (art) is added. There is free time, but it really depends how you send your time. Team sport vs lifetime sport, music, play, clubs, activities, volunteering. Study hall is quiet and focused in the freshman dorm in rooms (almost all singles, with door open). My daughter is super busy, but in the best way because everything she does is with her friends. The work is manageable, teachers are readily available, but it is meant to be academically challenging. It also depends on your placement.
Hey, Lawrenceville '23 alum here, congrats!
You will never have to run between any classes, assuming they all get out on time.
By the end of senior year, we were all so chill with each other that every graduation party had every single member of the class invited—no exceptions whatsoever. Nowadays, when I happen to be in a place where I know another Lawrenceville alum goes to school, I can text them and have never been ghosted; just this weekend, in fact, a classmate of mine who I was friends but not super close with was on my college’s campus, and we hung out for quite a bit. Of course, there are some cliquey people, but they’re few and far between, and everyone else ignores them.
If you choose to. Personally, I think you’d be squandering the immense amount of opportunities you get at Lville if you don’t.
My personal opinion of Lawrenceville is that it is best for highly-motivated students who don’t like being bored. I thrived there because I was always doing something (that I enjoyed); my activities and coursework energized me rather than tiring me. I do believe that it can be difficult for people who need a lot of downtime.
I was a day student, so I cannot comment.
Only if you want to participate in it. I was friends with people who hooked up, drank, pretty much everything in the book…but they never pressured me to join in at all, even when we were in places where there were “no rules.” And as cityran said, this isn’t unique to Lawrenceville—just check out Andover’s SOTA.
I have never heard of this. Maybe it’s new.
They are very intense, but as you get further into your time there, you get used to it. By my junior year, I was mostly on top of things almost all the time.
Junior and senior year, this is not the case. Readings become much more intense and voluminous, worksheets turn into papers, problem sets get longer, etc. Expect to spend 2-3 hours per day on homework later on.
Some sports, like soccer, do (or did back in 2019). Cross country also does not cut freshmen (or didn’t back in 2019).
Feel free to DM me with more specific questions! I’m currently in midterm season, but I’ll be on break soon and can help more then.
Could you expand on what happens on Wednesdays and why they are not full class days?
How would you say the attitude towards incoming Sophomore are? Boarding school was no where near an option for me in 9th hence why I am not coming as a Freshman.
I know I’m not the illustrious Lville guru @confusedaboutFA but I may be of some help here (if not I very much apologize for the interruption). In some ways, coming to L’ville as a 10th grader is the best entry point for a boarder because it is the year where they assign your House. (All the Freshmen live together in either the girls’ or boys’ dorm, which are located in their own little section of the campus and have their own rules). One of the first things you do once you get on campus is compete in the House Olympics – an all-school competition/extravaganza where you really get to bond with your new housemates. My daughter was a new III Former this year and she was set with a group of girls from her house by the end of Labor Day weekend. It can be intense, but it did seem to make the transition easier than it otherwise could be.
It is pretty typical for boarding schools to have half days on Wednesdays, to allow for sports competitions. If you are not an athlete, Wednesday afternoons are typically free (though I believe, unless you are a senior, you have to stay on campus).
As far as incoming third formers goes, I honestly believe Lville is one of the best boarding schools for new sophomores. As @TrioConBrio said, all of third formers are moving into the circle or crescent, and after spending a year in the “bubble” that is freshman year, everyone is looking forward to meeting new people. I’d say half of my friends from Lville (when I attended many moons ago) were new 3rd formers, and a good portion of Kiddo1’s friends were new 3rd formers.
@confusedaboutFA Your name came up when I was “chaperoning” an Lville Bahamas trip last week! Hope all is well!
I agree. I think Lville has made many mistakes in recent years, but I am hopeful that they’re moving in the right direction. Kiddo1 is more skeptical, as many students don’t have a lot of faith in the administration, having been through some incredibly difficult things in their time there.
oh I hear that they is going to be a new building in spring of 2024. do you guys happen to know about that?
