All day today, I have not been able to quote text from a post and have it appear in my reply. What is going on with that?
Works for me
works for me too!
I’ve occasionally seen that happen. Try refreshing your page - that fixes it for me.
Btw, I love the new “copy quote” feature. Very helpful!
What is copy quote?
Refreshing worked!
How does copy quote work? I see it pop up in the corner, but when I open up a reply, I don’t see the option to include the quote.
Right. I hit copy quote and NOTHING happens!
When you click “copy quote”, the quote is copied into your clipboard. Then you use the “paste” option in your browser to insert it into your reply.
What clipboard?
Your computer or phone’s clipboard.
Try it - select copy quote, then paste it into your reply. (Long press wherever you are in the reply dialog to get the “paste” option)
Oh! Well I’ll have to look. I trie d a couple but nothing happened. I had no idea something was happening behind the scenes.
Isn’t copy quote a needless extra step?
My thought exactly. I need to go hunt down my clipboard now!
Not if you’re copying the quote for a PM or into another thread. Was hard to do that before.
Nevermind. I’m using an iPad…I don’t have a clipboard I can find on this device…at all.
No you don’t actually access the clipboard. It’s a system function. Long press, and you get a pop up that shows paste, select, select all, etc. Just pick the paste option.
iPad has it, just like iPhone.
I can just copy the text and paste it into a message or another post…or even an email to myself (I’ve done that with recipes). Easy peasy.
Consider this: there’s a relevant snippet from a post on thread A that you want to include in your response to a post on thread B. How would you do this with proper attribution (showing who you’re quoting and from which thread)?
I guess I don’t do that often enough that it’s an issue.
