I just saw a report on this medical school on the Today Show. What a wonderful place!
Alice Walton sounds like a fascinating person. It would be great if other billionaires followed her lead and helped improve our society and world!
The female billionaires seem to be way ahead of the male billionaires on that.
Melinda has been interviewed and indicated that she involves her children in her philanthropy, which I think is a very important step in being sure that it continues going forward after she dies.
Oh, my gosh!!! Households with 2 kids need to earn over 400K to comfortably afford child care in US | FOX 2 Detroit
I think thereās a problem in the methodology or the assumptions in that FOX article about child care. I think many/most families live comfortably on less than they - FOX - say. The childcare is usually for a relatively short span of time compared to a career and sometimes it is just to keep the career viable for after childcare is needed. Why should it just be 7%? Why do we think families need $372 K a year to live comfortably?
Iām skeptical of that article, too. D and SIL do well but not that well and pay for an expensive preschool/daycare. Our state is one of the most expensive for child care and it is literally less expensive to send a child to our state flagship U than a year at the childcare! They are soon to have 2 children in the daycare and they can afford it.
Iām wondering if there is an agendaā¦
Itās the internet - thereās always an agenda. ![]()
My takeaway was less about the idea that it takes that much money to live ācomfortably,ā since that is a value judgement, and more about the average cost of childcare. And yes, I agree that there could be an ulterior motive to the articleās title.

I once talked with my FIL about some of his beliefs (this was way back - probably 2000 or so). I didnāt argue with him, and it was a civil conversation ⦠but what I learned was that I would never discuss anything like that with him again. Frankly, there are some things that I just donāt want to know about people.
It is difficult to follow that advice with my relative who uses arguments that are not based in fact. Her preferred news source tends to say things that are untrue which fills her with rage and fear. Iām afraid restating her beliefs will just reinforce those thoughts.

The term, long considered a slur for those with intellectual disabilities, is seeing a resurgence on social media and across the political right.

Helps explain how the number came about and the ramifications with some history.
Did a Luxury Nursing Home Hold a 91-Year-Old Woman Captive?
Her memory was failing, and the $28,000-a-month assisted living facility wouldnāt let her leave. Was it protecting her from an untrustworthy guardian?
Genes May Control Your Longevity, However Healthily You Live
A new study suggests that those with long-lived families probably have the best prospects of making it to a very old age.
