Although the power of attorney was executed legally with the name corrections it should have been redone to have a pristine copy. It’s one of those documents you don’t want anybody to question its authenticity. If the POA was determined to be legal at any point then yes, the facility was holding her against her will. I can well imagine that the place was reluctant to let her go at 28K/month especially if their first inclination is to send her to a locked dementia ward.

My MIL’s sisters lived to 97 and 98. MIL has now surpassed them, at almost 99. She has not lived a healthy lifestyle, not did they. And they all paid for it by living a life that most of us wouldn’t choose in their final years. My genetics indicate that I could live either into my early 80’s or into my 90’s, depending on whether my mom’s or my dad’s longevity genes influence me. I plan to try to make whatever time I have on this earth as active and engaged as I possibly can.
