In case people want to join the fun.

This video is haunting me. Why is it o.k. for women to uncover their heads for a foreign leader? How would we feel if we uncovered something we usually cover and shake them in front of a stranger?

I saw that and it kind of creeped me out

That’s really odd.

This dramatic and synchronized performance is known as Al-Ayyala, a traditional cultural dance of the United Arab Emirates. More than a welcome ceremony, Al-Ayyala is a vivid expression of Gulf heritage that combines poetry, percussion, and pride.

I was going to type my perspective, but this quote from the article sums it up pretty well.

She recounted something she’d read, that most people experienced one or two traumatic events in their lifetime — but over a 20-year career in policing, an officer experienced an average of 800 traumatic events. “EIGHT HUNDRED,” she wrote. “I am still shocked by that statistic.”

Odd that it creeped me out, or just “odd?” Either fine, just curious.

The “odd” remark should have been on the post above yours - it’s a comment about the video rather than a comment about your comment. Sorry for the confusion!

There are now only three manufacturers of fire trucks, with rising prices and long wait times for fire departments wanting to buy new ones.

Surprise! Private equity is involved.

Also tariffs make things more expensive. Tariffs on steel. Tariffs on parts that are manufactured in countries seeing tariffs. Slows down production. More demand.

I’m not sure this doesn’t belong in the catch all thread of links.

I love the line about private equity investors padding their wallets on the backs of public safety. They seem to forget that when cities and towns pay for something, the $$$ doesn’t come from a magic fund, but is contributed to by individuals paying taxes.

My mom and dad joined the millions of Americans who parent their children’s children — a beautiful responsibility that comes at a high cost.

This was already gift linked on the life in retirement thread. I’m not sure if you can take back a gift link.

It did not go the way I thought it was going to. Very interesting and well written imo
