Reality Shows Which one do you like?

I have been watching many reality shows, both live broadcasting or on demand. They are everywhere, major networks or cable channels.

I like the auto/car shows like Fast n Loud, Counting Cars. Antique shows like Pawn Star. Life experience shows like Hoarders… etc.

But I thought I saw some where that Pawn Star is a fake, the actual store sells nothing but junk tee shirts…

Which one do you like?

Justified?

The only “reality TV” I actually watch is HGTV, and it isn’t necessarily “real.” But I love looking at houses and design ideas.

Antiques Roadshow!! It is my favorite show. American, British, I don’t care. I just love it. I actually had tickets to go when it came to town!!!

I love Top Chef, Project Runway, HGTV Star-basically people doing amazing things in a short timeframe.
I watch So You Think You Can Dance because it is amazing to see these young people working so hard at what they love.
I watch Big Brother because human hamsters in a cage still brings me in year after year.

Yes, I love The Antique Roadshow as well, I went back to PBS web site and watched everyone of the on demand shows and ran out of it. I actually have a list of the shows I have watched and make sure I do not “review” it by accident. :)

I also liked “The Sing-Off.”

I enjoy The Little Couple. It has hardly any of the faux drama so typical in many “reality” shows. The couple consists of Jen (a doctor) and Bill (a business owner) who’ve recently adopted a “little” 3 yr. old boy from China and were in the process of adopting a “little” baby girl from India when the show took a break. I think it will resume in August. They both have a positive attitude (without being Pollyanna) and seem to make great partners.

We started watching Duck Dynasty last season after one of our kids told us about it. I enjoy it, in part because I have family in south LA, but get irritated by the patriarch. The grandkids are adorable and remind me of some of my nieces and nephews.

Project Runway might be my favorite. I also like Antique Roadshow, The Voice, and, I confess, Dance Moms.

I like two:

(1) Staying married and raising successful children; and
(2) Laughing at the crazy things politicians say.

I like -

 • The Amazing Race
 • Shark Tank
 • Some of the car shows (because I’m into cars)
 • ‘Cops’ and the like shows

I don’t like -

 • Any of the dancing/singing contest shows that my W likes
 • The ridiculously fake shows like the car repo shows, some of the pawn shop shows, duck caller shows, moonshiners, amish show, etc.
 • The shows trying to be interesting and reality based but just don’t have much there, are filled with dramatic music when nothing dramatic ever happens, and have fake aspects (and very bad acting) to them like the - Ice Road Truckers, Gold mining shows, Truck driving on the dangerous road show, pawn shows other than ‘Pawn Stars’.

It’s not a fake. A family member actually went to the the pawn shop in Vegas. They have real stuff - what you see on the show. I think it’s their website that sells the t-shirts, etc. because it’s probably difficult to sell the pawned stuff on their website. They actually do buy items and sell them. That said, I know many aspects of the show are somewhat acted up and staged - i.e. the person with the rare item doesn’t just happen to stroll in with the cameras running - it was arranged - notice how empty the store is when they have these special sellers in - the store would normally be packed but it’s not really open to the public when they’re filming. They also don’t just randomly have all of these ‘buddy who’s an expert’ conveniently available to come into the store whenever they’re called. They also do some of the same bad acting that all of these shows do when they try add some dialogue between the people you see on the show. I’m sure a lot of it’s scripted and planned and even practiced. Regardless, I still like seeing the stuff brought into the show.

None. They are all scripted and fake. I refuse to watch them. The karaoke contests like the The Voice are the worst.

I have better things to do with my time.

I’m sad that Hardcore Pawn is extremely scripted now. In the first season, you were able to get past that it’s fake. Now…it’s so dramatic.

“I have better things to do with my time.”

I said that already!

My favorite, by far, is The Amazing Race.

I also get together with three of my Ds each week to watch the Bachelorette/Bachelor. We all know it’s ridiculous, we also all know who the winner is, but we don’t care. It’s fun and entertaining and a chance to get together and laugh. My H thinks we’re all crazy and doesn’t understand how four intelligent, well-educated, and successful women can waste their time on it. Of course, after he tells us that, he tunes in to Top Gear. ;)

It is a little embarrassing to look through my DVR and note all the trashy series I have set to record. In my defense, the series are shown at various times through the year, so rarely are there more than a couple of them at a time showing new episodes. That is my excuse, and I’m sticking with it.

Aaaanyway, here are the first-run episodes I have permanently set to record:
Rehab Addict
The Incredible Dr. Pol
Flipping Out… Which lead me to:
Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis
Project Runway
The Real Housewives of New York… Which lead me to:
Bethany Ever After
Top Chef
Dance Moms
Antiques Roadshow

Sigh. Really, I’m completely embarrassed to admit that I watch RHNY, but it is like a train wreck happening in slow motion. I can’t look away.

A few of these shows I’m pretty sure are no longer in production, but they are still on my DVR.

Do I get extra credit for also DVRing Downton Abbey, Mad Men, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report?

I watch all the RHO except Atlanta and had to watch Princesses Long Island as my cousin’s daughter knows one of the girls. It was truly, truly, truly awful.

I watch AR but I don’t consider that to be Reality TV.

DH & I both watch Shark Tank.

Oh, that’s nothing compared to what I watch. :p

Think of every trashy show on Adult Swim, Lifetime, Bravo, Oxygen, VH1, and MTV.

@emily Aw, I like Princesses of LI.

I love True Blood and Game of Thrones.

I like a lot of the competition shows but have gotten bored with the singing and dancing competitions. They seem repetitive now.

I like Project Runway, Top Chef, Food Network Star, HGTV Design Star, Next Iron Chef, Fashion Show, Face Off (special effects makeup) and a recent very cool engineering competition called Big Brain Theory. I also liked the hair styling competitions (Shear Genius) and I watched a flower arranging competition as well. I particularly like it when there’s a specialized skill involved and you can really come to appreciate what these endeavors entail.

I also really like the action/adventure type competitions like Survivor, Amazing Race, The Mole. There have been some one-offs that are patterned on these types of shows and I’ve liked all of them.

DeskPotato, have you watched Best Ink? You mentioned you liked competition shows.
