Unfortunately, I have no informed insight for you on your question. At the same time, I know you’re disappointed about not getting into a school on the East Coast. The one thing I would say is that I have heard of kids who have started at one boarding school and usually because of a gap in fit, have changed to another boarding school. It sounds from other threads that you’re likely going to attend Cate, so you will have a different profile applying. The downside on applying next year while at Cate is that you delay truly investing in your experience at Cate. On the other hand, your position that you want to attend school on the East Coast because you are West Coast raised is a compelling argument for reapplying - IMO. If you do apply, my suggestion would be to choose 1 or 2 schools and reach out to the Directors in one of your main activities - sounds like music? - and develop an authentic relationship so that they can “pull” you into the school. Again - not an expert at all in this process, but my advice based on observations of others / stories. Best of luck.
