well i heard somewhere that international students are eleigble for these scholarships
is it true??
is it a full ride tuition??
how selective it is for intl’s?? which aspect do they focus on??

Lol…

How sure are you that you would be admitted to Harvard if you applied? If you were lucky enough to be admitted, do you think Harvard would offer you a merit scholarship (let’s assume Harvard had scholarships)?? If you still think ‘yes’, would you expect it to be the most prestigious scholarship Harvard has to offer???

That’s how selective the scholarship is! UCB has an international admission rate below 10% and most of those applicants would be very well qualified to attend. Gaining admission by itself is quite an accomplishment, but you go one step further and seek UCB’s most prestigious merit scholarship? What do you think qualifies you for that???

Btw, the scholarship does not have a pre-defined monetary value. Instead it meets 100% of demonstrated need with merit money (as opposed to work-study or loans). But since international students cannot apply for need-based financial aid at UCB, you would be stuck with the $1000 award for scholarship recipients who are not applying for need-based fin aid.

Two Indian citizens from UAE got the scholarship last year (k_twin and Shrivats, I think). From their posts, it looks like if you get the scholarship, then you get a need-based grant. It is extremely tough to get though and if you don’t have any financial need (based on the calculation by admission officers), then you just get a 1000$ reward.

Btw, if you are looking at scholarships, USC (university of southern california) has 300 half-tuition and 100 full-tuition scholarship every year (for both domestic and international students) and since there is no complicating factor of need, you will get the stated amount.

I’m a little confused, how can they tell your financial need as internationals if internationals aren’t allowed to apply for need based aid? Do they ask for a financial aid application when you achieve these scholarships?
