Revenge shopping?

Further comment: it was discussed before he bought it. I told him exactly what I said here: “I don’t like motorcycles and I wish you wouldn’t buy it, but go ahead if it’s important to you.”

“For those of you who are suggesting expensive shoes or a handbag, I don’t carry a bag, and I have exactly ONE pair of non-sport shoes (but they are purple swede, and they did cost about $200, and I love them).”

Precisely why I recommended them. If I bought something that I had no use for, it would rise a few eyebrows. Diamond studs or a necklace sounds like a good idea. Since you do a lot of outdoorsy stuff, a ring could be not as practical.

Dmd–if you are like me–stuff you wear or carry is just not going to cut it. it’s about what you can DO. For me, I’d sign up for expensive writing workshops or conferences, maybe buy a new kayak or bike. What’s the thing you want to do/experience/attend that you worried about the price for? Buy that.

Ack, Garland, you nailed it… and I’m already doing it. Thanks. I’ll just keep remembering that.

Get a horse?
Or maybe several little yappy dogs. :))

How about gourmet cooking classes? Flying lessons? Spa treatments? Yoga retreats at posh destinations with BFFs? Language lessons? Clothing you’ve had on wish list?

How bout a side car?

Maybe buy an African Grey Parrot. Teach it to say “I don’t like motorcycles and I wish you wouldn’t buy it.”

It’s considered non-supportive because that response has some negativity behind it.

Unless, of course, that negativity has the dynamic similar to how my friend plays disco to annoy me and how I play punk/pop-punk to return the favor a way for us to rib each other.

If not, the SO feeling his/her hobby/pastime is being disapproved of is likely to end up starting a thread on forums or complaining to his/her friends at drinks/dinner about how his/her SO is guilting him/her over the pastime/hobby in question.

Lost count of how many times this topic came up with some married friends…and how depressing it is to listen to that for those of us who aren’t in that type of marriage…or who are single.

My sister went on one of these vacations (not as a revenge purchase) and had a ball with some female friends
<a href=“French Culinary Schools to Visit on Vacation”>http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/french-cooking-school-vacations

My friend annually goes on ski vacations with her BFFs. They have a great time and her family (H and kids) is fine with it. Another friend had his wife going to Europe with a female friend annually for some years. He said it was fine but they divorced after about 25 years.

Have it ever dawned on you that some of these threads have a tongue in cheek kinda tone to them? Hence the Louboutins, parrots, etc. recommendations. there is not a single tiny vibe of depressing thoughts in any of the posts other than yours. :)

Dmd, what would your H do if you secretly buy one of these and attach to his bike while he is out?

1/2 price of a Chanel. ;)

If fun revenge is what you’re after…a large pink Hello Kitty sticker is probably more effective…and less expensive. :D

How about a cleaning lady every week (if you don’t already have one)?

Cleaning lady! How about a massage therapist named Serge who visits you at your house each week for 10 weeks until he can “work out all the kinks”!

Better yet, sign H up for a couples massage workshop.

A weekend jaunt to Paris with a shopping trip to Hermes to buy a Birken bag.

Ha ha-I love this one!

I’d say a week at a Spa, every year for the next 5.

A week a year… Canyon Ranch. Sounds good.

Cobrat, LOL@ hello kitty sticker. I will save that one for Mr B’s overpriced electric tin can.
