Mercersburg has a January 31st deadline for applicants, but according to their website,
“Applications received after the deadline will be evaluated and acted upon individually on a rolling basis.”
Even though they are on the above list as a school with “rolling applications”, it is not in the classic definition of such. I just don’t want someone to think that if they submit their application to M’burg in December, they may hear in January. I think Mercersburg, and probably lots of schools, use late rolling admissions to catch great applicants who might be facing limited options.

I would suggest that lots of schools will do this, more than are listed above.

Blair Academy states on its Admission website:
“Applications completed after the deadline will be considered on a rolling basis depending upon available openings. Please note that the Admission Committee cannot guarantee full consideration to late applicants.”

Similar to Mercersburg, they may be looking for great applicants with limited choices or need to fill some class imbalances like too few freshman boys or not enough oboe players. I am guessing that schools with admission rates of around 30% or more will consider late applications for a full pay. However, it will be more competitive, and they may be looking for specific attributes.

Most of those schools have the winter deadline and then accept others on a rolling basis as space allows - for sure AOF, Blair, Cushing, Governors, Gunnery, KUA, Lawrence, Peddie all do.
The best thing to do is to call around to the schools you might be interested in - even those not on this list - and ask.

Williston North Hampton is “interviewing students… for the remaining places in [their] boarding classes for September enrollment”.

The SCCA (Schools Currently Considering Applicants) list is now availble for Fall '11. I’m not sure how real-time the list is but it should help those still considering BS for Aug/Sept '11.

Oh…I guess Peddie isn’t doing rolling admissions this year.

So far, according to the SCCA list, here are the below schools we already mentioned that are considering applications:

I’m really concerned that these schools are listed on that site as still open on a rolling basis but have a lot of CC families waitlisted (many for financial aid.)

So caveat emptor - rolling admissions may lean heavily in favor of full pay families.

Linda S - I agree with you about following up on these leads. There is certainly no harm in inquiring.

I was rejected from my two colleges (waitlisted & rejected…) and am making a dire attempt to spend a PG year at a prep school to perfect sports and academics.

Is all hope lost this late in the game?

@Gordon, I think I read one of your threads about this matter. You may have a good chance at Kent, one of the schools you mentioned. Were you WL or denied at Harvard and ND? Your high scores and the fact that your are full pay makes you desirable to a BS with an extra bed. Are you good at any sports? I’m sure by now you are working the phones. You will also have plenty of paperwork to push through before your current HS goes on summer break. Good luck and let us know how it works.

Muf: Thanks for the post! I was rejected at H, and waitlisted (equivalent) at the Air Force Academy, another sub-10% school. I spoke with admission officer/consoler from both schools, and both stated academics as my only ‘weak spot.’ Both also said I would of probably been accepted to most other schools… wish I applied! I called (voicemail) my new Kent adcom, and replied to an email she sent about rolling admissions. In that email I outlined my situation, and made a discrete pitch about joining as a PG. I forgot to mention that I would pay in full, but will be sure to mention it if I get a shaky answer. Perhaps my application shows this already. Needless to say, it has been a somewhat stressful/emotional/etc the past few weeks. I laughed at your mention of paperwork - yes indeed a mountain of paperwork and some strong efforts for networking! I actually called Belmont University accidentally, thinking I was talking to Bellmont Prep School - our conversation lasted for almost 10 minutes, before we realized we were talking about two different things :o.

I like Kent allot; although I have not visited, it does seem ideal, especially being a Christian school and the sports offered to PG students. Speaking of which, I play golf, and if I also work at it as much as academics, I just might be able to consistently shoot a high-mid 60s/18 holes and be recruited as an athletic likely = dream come true! Time will tell if I can swing this (no pun intended)… currently I shoot in the 70s and 80s, with a high-60s game for about every five games I play. I can do it… now it’s a question of consistency.

If you have any ideas/suggestions, please PM or post, I really appreciate the thoughts! :)

@gordongecko, Why did you only apply to two schools? And two with less than 10% acceptance? I’m trying to understand what in the world you were thinking.

I totally agree. Frankly I felt comfortable because my father felt comfortable, especially since he seemed to think I would be fine with just AFA. Nonetheless, I should of picked up on the fact that all my friends were applying to 4, 5, 6, sometimes 10 schools. :(:(

No use beating yourself over the head for past oversights. You’re on the right track to find a solution. You’re lucky your folks have the extra$ for a PG year. It will probably be an enjoyable experience and will give you that extra time to set up a winning game plan.
Since you’re looking at military did you consider a PG at any of the prep academies such as Valley Forge?
