Agh… Too hard… Lol.
Jess
Finn.
It’s fairly popular in my part of the US and top 10 in Ireland.
I know a soon to be born Finn!
ahhh.
I would guess George, Hans, Mace, Ben, Van or Vaughn.
My heart stopped for a minute when I saw so many new posts on this thread! Relieved to find it’s all good.
Drew, Jett
Drew is trending around here for girls and has always been popular for boys.
I wanted to name my SON Jett 30 years ago, but my (now ex) H’s family had an old AUNT named Jett that nobody liked so ex wouldn’t even consider it.
Some of these suggestions are interesting. I would never have thought of George and Ben being considered unisex names , for instance.
How are they unisex names? What am I missing here?
This is fun!
Blair, Britt, Chris, Gem, Quinn, Rae, Skye, Val, Wren
FWIW, good plan to not disclose in advance. Everyone has an opinion that you don’t need ; )
“It’s short, unisex, and while it can be a nickname, it’s usually a stand alone name.”
One clue some of you are missing besides it being one syllable.
Yep the nickname aspect.
A name like Jo(e) that can stand alone or nickname for Joseph(ine).
Sam or Pat would also fit this criteria.
@sevmom I’m a big fan of making names unisex but I’d draw the line at George. Our crossover name rule (where names were strongly associated with one sex) was that there had to be more traditionally masculine and feminine nicknames that could be spawned.
For example (I’ll give this one away since it’s a family name and we’re not using family names) if we named them Nick, a feminine child could use Nicky, Nikki, etc.
But the “usually” part might not apply to these.
I am voting for Lex/Lexi
@romanigypsyeyes, you can tell us. We won’t tell anybody!
@sevmom and @Knowsstuff I also do not consider Ben or George unisex. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a daughter George. Ryan Reynolds daughter is James. My sons are amused, they know I have baby name issues, names that are not masculine for boys. My husband jokes, their future wives will decide, I’ll have no say!
Our son’s name wasn’t popular or unisex in 1992 but it is now! I will share it since CC allowed me to post his blog, including his name, a few years back and it got 10,000 views. Logan.
Kel, Wynn, Bo, Shawn, Cal, Nox
@MaineLonghorn, in the 80s I was pushing for Logan; DH’s job required travel quite a bit to the northeast and he refused - the name reminded him of the airport.
