Romani Jr is on the way

I was surpised by some baby gifts because of the size. From experienced parents who knew a kid could be a size twice that reported for age. These gifts also were the best/most expensive ones he ever had since I went cheap for the many needed but outgrown fast clothes.

Donate the stuff with religion. Save things you think are waay too big- time flies and babies grow fast. I actually traded some clothes for the larger size as I had too many in one size. Wasn’t going to waste them for at home with those multiple changes due to spit.

Be aware you can have tons of photos but eventually you realize that and are selective in what to keep. Actually the predigital days were good for not losing photos. Plus- scrolling through too many is boring. Remember to live, not document your child’s life. There is so much more than reliving experiences through photos.

I appreciate the advice but if I didn’t document much of my child and niblings lives, I’d forget the memories completely. The lupus causes a lot of memory issues.

I also didn’t get too many new clothes thankfully. Not knowing sex was a wonderful barrier to people getting outfits.

Well, it’s cholestasis. They’re starting me on a medicine to help control symptoms but other than that and monitoring, there’s not much they can do.

Ideally, I’ll make it until 36 weeks but it seems like they will induce me by week 37 since that’s when risk of stillborn goes up.

Can you use topical creams for the itching? Sorry you are having to deal with this and hoping for 37 weeks.

Well at least they know what it is. My oldest was 3 weeks early and weighed 7.5 pounds. I’m glad he was in a hurry to get out!

I hope the medicine helps with the symptoms and you make it to 36-37 weeks. Thankfully, you’ve got very good medical care.

@CottonTales the Ursodiol (med) is supposed to help the itching. My MFM said topical meds don’t tend to help because the itching comes from the inside, not out.

Having a solid diagnosis is helpful. So – instead of April, I guess it will be late March. Just relax as much as you can. Baby Jedi will be OK. A baby born at 36 weeks will be fine. You’re getting excellent care.

I was surprised to find, when shopping for my first grandbaby last year, that there are very few unisex clothes in the stores nowadays. When I was pregnant, there was a lot of yellow and green either/or gowns and pjs. We did not want to know the gender of our first, but I still had lots to choose from. Nowadays, everything in the stores seems to very girly or very boy-y.

I know several young women, some relatives, that had/have high risk pregnancies because of underlying chronic conditions and doctors were ok with delivering as early as 32. Of course that’s not the ideal but having to balance not taking medicine for their condition until after delivered - balancing health of mom and baby. 36 weeks is very good. Fingers crossed.

Both of my guys were induced at 37 weeks – at 7lb 10oz and 8lb 12oz. If you get to the point where you’ll need to deliver sooner, there’s lots they can do to speed up lung development.

You’re over the big prematurity hump at this stage. You and your medical team have this. Nevertheless, I’m sorry you have to go through this.

I went 42 weeks with both of my girls. I would have been thrilled with 36-37 weeks.

Hope they can control the itching and glad they are watching you so closely.

Yes the 36 is the goal but at this point it can be anywhere between now and March 31.

I have the meds now and now we just kinda wait. Which at this point is fine by me.

I had am extremely frustrating time getting here. I called asking about my results and a nurse called me back and kept telling me I was negative for preeclampsia. I was never suspected of preeclampsia since my blood pressure borders on too low. So I kept asking what about the cholestasis and she kept repeating the preeclampsia stuff.

So she finally said a doctor could call me back if I wanted, but that they had about 200 calls in queue and they were going in order of priority. Implying mine wasn’t important. And I know that that’s how things work but she didn’t have to say it like that lol.

And as a last thought she said it was probably related to my lupus despite the fact that my lupus is fairly under control and has never affected my liver. So I asked for a doc call back.

At that point I was so frustrated that I called a family friend who is head of a GI department and asked her opinion because I was getting shuffled between doctors. While I was talking to her, my mfm called me and told me the markers were low but positive and that he was going to start treating me. We basically just caught it early.

I’ve had amazing experiences with my MFM department and I think this nurse was a general OB nurse. She was so rude and condescending, treating me like I was an inconvenience to her day. Unfortunately for her, I’m stubborn and have enough medical experience to know when I need to push.

I needed to rant.

Sorry if I missed this but how is baby measuring for weight/size at this point?

I agree that your team seems very tuned into you and baby - they are going to be both of your best advocates!

I’m glad you have the answers and Rx you need and your great MFM team caught this very early and are being proactive.

It’s taken a bit of pushing on my part to get answers - which is not normally my style but my kid is involved and that has turned me into a momma bear.

Now that we have a plan though, I really do have a fantastic team. Communication between nurses and docs doesn’t always seem to be great but that’s not unusual.

@abasket my last growth scan was exactly at 28 weeks (I’m currently 30w+3days). Then, baby was measuring:

-Head circumference: 74th percentile (30 wks)
-Abdominal circumference & femur length: 27wks + 6days (~40th percentile)
-Estimated weight: 1196 g (~2 lb 10oz)

I asked about the discrepancy between the HC & other two measurements and the tech said basically “Your damn kid won’t stop moving.” But all of my other growth scans have been pretty consistent of 50th-80th percentile depending on how cooperative they are. Considering I’m 6’ and Mr R is 6’2", the doc says that’s perfectly normal.

If the baby keeps moving, I’m sure he’ll be born as soon as is good AND healthy! Moving is GREAT!

^^ Sounds pretty on track - that’s another win!

It’s true. Baby’s been a trooper and perfectly on track the whole pregnancy. Just really uncooperative with the techs. My mom says that I never stopped moving in the womb and baby is now paying me back lol.

My best friend jokes that if the baby can survive my body, it can survive just about anything. It’s actually quite comforting ?

That estimated weight reminds me of a residency rotation in the NICU eons ago. The kilogram milepost. Yours has surpassed that with more time to grow and develop. The most important organs have/are reaching maturity levels that bode well. My 33 weeker looked like a monkey- scrawny. The last weeks are ones of putting on weight so not to worry.

Imagine this. You are just beginning the eighteen year journey filled with so many new worries (and those continue many years past that). It will be so nice for you to hold little Jedi in your arms instead of inside. It is so much nicer to see the growth and development than to experience it as you do during any pregnancy, no matter how easy or problematic. Hang in there- the end is in sight.
