Romani Jr is on the way

That’s his oldest cousin (the pic is about 3 years old). I just thought it was hilarious that Mr R’s family produces grumpy man babies lol.

That’s funny. A friend told me that ds1 “already looked worried” when he was a newborn. And he did. And he hasn’t changed. Definitely a serious side.

Welcome to the world baby Ren! And welcome to parenthood @romanigypsyeyes and Mr. R. Hope your homecoming is joyful! Thanks for sharing!

We use to say newborns looked like old Jewish men; in later year we went with Yoda! I don’t see Yoda wrinkles on Ren, but calling him Yoda would be a complement!

When I finish mask making, I’m making Ren’s quilt! Have the design all done and blocks designed. ?

Congratulations!

My kids both looked like Pope John Paul II.

Well because literally nothing in life goes according to plan, here’s where we stand:

The good: baby boy is completely off ALL breathing assistance. No oxygen, no cpap, no nothing. He is eating and doing everything else he needs to do and Mr R has been able to be with him most of the time that he(Mr R)'s not sleeping. He is COMPLETELY done with antibiotics, his EKG was perfect, as was his hearing test and blood tests. The hospital staff both in the maternity ward and the NICU have been beyond words fabulous and our stay has been as comfortable as humanly possible.

The bad: we’re not going home tonight. While baby boy is eating on his own and everything, he is still getting some IV nutrients. When they cut his dose in half, his blood sugar fell below where they want it. They were going to discharge me today and leave Mr R with baby (between my meds and everything, it’s just infinitely easier for Mr R to stay here), but then I started showing signs of a lupus flare. We knew this was a possibility and it looks like my luck was short-lived.

The good again: as soon as they can wean baby off IV nutrients and have his blood stay stable, he gets to come up and we can be a family in our room :).

I’m incredibly lucky to have both fantastic insurance - this stay is costing us close to nothing and we’re at one of the best hospitals in the world. I could not imagine having to stress over costs at a time like this - though I recognize most Americans would have to - even with insurance.

I’m sure the anticipation of being with Ren, and then the delay, is disappointing. Hopefully, the 3 of you will be together soon.

And, yes, not having insurance/financial issues is a big weight off anyone’s shoulders.

Sending lots of prayers that you both are able to go home very soon! big hugs!!!

Here’s to hoping they can get your lupus flare to go away and you, Ren and Mr R can get some good rest and family time together!

So glad you have a top medical team watching you and Ren!

Sending more ++++++++vibes to Ren and mommy!

Sending health and strength. So glad to hear of the wonderful care you’re getting!

You’re doing such a great job of being patient and keeping your eyes on the big picture! May your lupus flare be minimal and Ren’s blood stay stable. Love to you and Mr. R, who’s also a trooper.

Sending you wishes of good health for everyone. Hopefully this will all be short-lived and you and your family will be at home soon. The good news is the great care and the great insurance. And perhaps you might even be relatively well rested by the time you go home? So very excited for you!

One of my great-nephews had low blood sugar before discharge. Took a couple days in the hospital to get it resolved, but he’s now a happy, healthy 6 mo old! It’s not uncommon, apparently.

Take care of yourself! So glad Mr. R has been able to have such an active role, esp with all the COVID limitations. Y’all are a great team!

I’m sure you just want to go home, but you’ll look back and be happy for the extra time off your feet and Mr. R will be grateful for the extra hands in these first few days.

Congrats (but I really thought Ren was a girl)

So sorry! Feel better soon. I know you are itching to get home.

@romanigypsyeyes Sending good thoughts your way that you will be home soon. Sounds like it is good you and Ren are staying in the hospital a bit longer.

Sending good thoughts for your family’s health. So glad you are all being well taken care of.
