highskoolstudent, we have bunk beds, I think, and I also “think” we only need to bring twin sheets.

bunk beds? do we have to take the top bunk? I am rather afraid of the top bunk. I am a pretty clumsy person and I’d hate to fall off.

Room arrangements vary widely. Only some rooms have bunk beds. Only some rooms are even doubles! In the case of bunk beds, clearly you do not have to take the top bunk, unless your roommate is ahem very friendly and insists.

Regarding luggage: I brought one large suitcase and a garbage bag with a blanket and pillow. Some people brought more stuff than that, I think. International students and those flying in will want to take less stuff and buy/share more of it upon arrival. (For instance, don’t worry about laundry detergent or hangers. Actually that goes for all of you.) No, no sleeping bag is necessary; when you end up sleeping outside or in a lounge, you’ll be able to scrounge up bedding.

13 days…

ha im excited abd im not going

I can’t believe RSI is less than 2 weeks away!!! I feel so unprepared, though. Ahhh! I’m bringing a very large suitcase, a backpack, and maybe another bag - it worked out nicely for PROMYS last year (well actually, I also brought my tennis racket which presented some difficulties on the T).

Also, what is discussed in the humanities lecture? Like literary devices/themes of Frankenstein?

Hey there, all new rickoids… :D

I haven’t been on this thread in forever (got sidetracked with other stuff, I guess) so I decided to stop by and say hi.

I started reading Frankenstein. It was a little boring at first but then I started to get into it…

My mentor hasn’t contacted me yet, so I am really curious. I am hoping that RSI got all of my forms and everything is right with them…does anyone know if they email you if there is a prob with anything?

I can’t believe how soon it is…pretty soon I am actually going to have to start thinking about packing… smile :D

Yep, they’ll let you know if there’s any problem. There isn’t. Don’t worry!

Hi again…I wanted to say some more… :)

This is to kissthesky… I wanted to tell you that I went to SSP last year and it was AWESOME, totally awesome, so I can understand (especially given that you prob. already told SSP that you are definitely going) your choice to go there. Have an awesome time…

I am thinking that I am going to fill one suitcase to the brim with clothes, and then have like a backpack or something with my books and other stuff. What are you guys planning on doing?

Thanks, flierdeke–you’ve alleviated my worries some :D

yeah tweetletwoot, I’m prolly gonna do the same thing as you.

I’m bringing one large suitcase and a backpack…or maybe a suitcase instead of the backpack…i dunno…do we have to pack blankets and stuff?

You won’t be provided with blankets, but it’s pretty hot in Cambridge in the summer. Sheets are a good idea, as is a pillow if you’re used to one. Last year, the “pillows” provided were also good for construction.

Also, here are some things you can buy at MIT (with your food allowance) instead of packing, if it’ll help:
phone cards at a good rate (I think I managed a penny a minute with no initial charge, but I live close to Boston)
basic cooking supplies
school supplies (notebooks, pens/pencils, etc.)
toiletries
laundry detergent
hangers
chocolate soy milk
(not that you should be packing that, anyway, but I like that it’s available at the food store)

we have to bring a lab notebook. are you bringing a normal one or a fancy professional looking one? can we buy nice ones there?

I <3 chocolate soy milk…yum

I hope we can buy nice ones there. I want a professional-looking one but I don’t know where to buy one…lol

You can probably buy a simple notebook at the food store, or a fancier (although probably overpriced, and not “free” like the stuff on your card) one at the Coop (also in the student center). That must be a new requirement.

Should it be the kind of notebook with graph paper? Or just normal paper? I don’t remember if the letter said…

OMG I LOVE SOYMILK. Does the store have plain soymilk? I seriously can’t survive without my soymilk for 6 weeks, so I am very relieved to hear that it will be available…

:D

tweetle, did you win a trip to taiwan or something like that at ISEF? If so, when are you leaving? That’s a pretty cool experience.
