San Diego State Class of 2029 Freshman Discussion Thread

Has psychology major come out yet? I have seen a handful only from all the different FB groups I am in and those were EA. So not sure

Great and amazing options. Honestly, I’d take them over SDSU any day. Good luck to him!

Geez. Like other posters, those are TOP oos public flagships that are very difficult to get into, OOS. Just isn’t right- and my user handle expresses the frustration I experienced with S23 and now I see it happening again with my S25 and many others. If you can make the cost differences work, the OOS experience is fabulous

Let me guess- a higher overall weighted GPA with the 4.14 CSU/capped GPA? If so, there goes the course rigor argument

Those are amazing choices!! Which is your son leaning toward?

My son was waitlisted today for Undecided.

Right now, it is Tulane- We are heading to Texas and Wisconsin for admitted student events. I am a UCLA alumni so he’s waiting for that but is pretty discouraged, considering he was waitlisted from SDSU. I think he has some great options in being out of California might be a better experience.

yes, uncapped GPA for all CSU approved H/AP 10/11th grade classes is 4.41. It shouldn’t be a rigor argument since he took the harder AP and honors classes including Calc BC and AP Chem.

Do UCs and CS protect their yield with waitlists? SDSU is not top of his list at the moment but maybe after he does more research it will rise.

Anyone else’s status portal unavailable right now for ā€œmaintenanceā€?

I agree. What I am saying is your child’s course rigor is strong, which is a primary contributor to the lower (relative to 4.4+) capped GPA. Fewer courses would have raised the capped GPA significantly. Counter-argument is that lower capped GPA but course rigor (as part of holistic review) is better. But CSUs may be looking at capped GPA (for a variety of reasons). Hopefully, some of the UC options account for the course rigor and fully weighted GPA more than SDSU appears to have. This is explained/discussed further in this thread (but in the context of UC’s)

No the UC’s and CSU’s do not yield protect. They all have more qualified applicants than spots available and usually maintain a large waitlist so they can easily pull from the waitlist if they are underenrolled.

Daughter waitlisted for Bio. 4.28 CSU GPA plus 3 DE classes that were science related. She’s been accepted already to U of Oregon + Honors Program, LMU, Santa Clara, Gonzaga and Loyola Chicago (all with merit money). Waiting on three UCs, Cal Poly, and a few other private schools. She knew declaring Bio would make a yes harder at SDSU; many of her classmates were accepted to other majors with lower stats. Her two cousins attend and I’m a San Diego native … but I do actually think it was not a great fit for my daughter so I’m sure it’s just part of the process.

So if we didn’t get in today, in fact, no news at all is it safe to say we’ve been rejected?

Has everyone received an email with their status update? My daughter was waitlisted this morning in the portal but still hasn’t received an email.

That’s what i’m wondering too…
