Does anyone know if you are able to list a second major for consideration at SDSU? For instance, if I apply for the nursing program, can I also list a second major in case I don’t get accepted to the direct admit program?

Thank you!

This year, SDSU does allow an applicant to select an alternate major. You should check with admissions since it is pretty late to add an alternate major for consideration if you already applied.

As a first-year applicant, you have the option to choose an alternate major on the Cal State Apply application. If you are not selected for your first choice major, then you may be considered for your alternate major if space is available.

I find it weird that SDSU takes almost as long as UCSD to release results when they have no PIQs to read.

Same with Cal Poly SLO!

Sure. Gave them a pass so they can run their top secret proprietary algorithm for admissions!

SLO has the absolute worst decision release on earth. SDSU not far behind.

Maybe they want to delay so it comes out close in time to the UC’s. Otherwise there’s an advantage to being first and kids start to get attached to the schools where they have been admitted. There’s a lot of overlap in applications among SDSU, Cal Poly Slo and all the UC’s.

No real reason (that I can come with) to accept some students, wait a few days, accept a few more, wait a week and waitlist a bunch, and then another week to deny the rest. It’s cruel.

Kid was accepted in December and received notice today of receiving an academic award from SDSU- they also applied to the honors program. Any idea if receiving the academic presidential award has any bearing on getting into the honors program?

Congrats! Do you mean a scholarship? Is the academic award in an email or portal?

For the Presidential scholarship:

Benefits

As a Presidential Scholar, you will benefit from unique programs and opportunities that are not typically available to other SDSU students.

These benefits include:

  • Special opportunities to meet the SDSU president
  • Personal advisors who will help you succeed in college
*Guaranteed admission to the Weber Honors College
  • Guaranteed on-campus housing
  • Study abroad placement assistance

Received notification through email, however it does not mention anything about these benefits (admission to Honors program etc), Simply says " Congratulations! Given your academic performance and demonstrated accomplishments, we are so pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the Academic Presidential Award!

So I don’t think it is the same as a presidential scholar?

There is nothing listed for the Academic Presidential Award but there are some awards for High achieving First year admitted students so maybe this is the award. Did they list the amount your student would receive?

BTW congratulations to your student.

Congrats to your kiddo! My daughter received the Academic Presidential Award today as well. She is OOS and received acceptance in December. No mention of Honors Program.

how about something in between such as PA, DO, or PharmD school? Other than going directly into a nursing program, why is it necessary to decide now?
