scholarship questions

Here is a link to a thread about it. Guaranteed admissions to medical school programs are very competitive no matter which school you are applying to.

Thanks @MTnest

I did some research on CC and find out from previous ysr that ~200 invites goes out, 50-75 get interview calls and 8-10 get selected in the end and they have to maintain a 3.75 GPA … definitely very very competitive…

One of the best part of the guaranteed admission to medical school is the money you save from all the application fees and going to the interviews (could run into the thousands depending upon how many schools you apply to). Also there is no anxiety/worry about getting into a med school

You see the anxiety on the medical school forum – the applications, the waiting for the invitation to interview, then the interview and finally waiting for the decision. It is so much better to know ahead of time that you are in as long as you maintain your GPA.

of course a 3.75 is very hard to mantain as a premed but have to agree with MTtest. it is hard to get into med school and knowing up front you’re in with certain GPA(how does MCAt work with this anyway) would be invaluable and take some of the stress away. plus if GPA got on low side, you would know up front to add in some classes you are likely to get an A in and not have to worry that the “bad” semester will kill ur med school chances as long as you could get GPA back up.

I found a manila letter to my D from Pitt in the mailbox. It was mailed in Dec 9th, showing my D was offered a full tuition and an invitation to Chancelor scholarship application (a full ride). It said the application should be done in three weeks of receipt of the letter. :)

Dad2013: Congrats! I know you have been waiting to hear!!!

Dad2013: Hooray! Congratulations to your daughter! That’s great news :)

Congratulations Dad 2013. Your daughter has done extremely well, hard work pays off…
She will be spoilt for choices as to where she wants to go come April…Good Luck.

Hey everyone. Do you know if someone who didn’t get accepted into UHC has a chance for merit money? Thanks!

Dad2013 - Congratulations!! Glad it worked out and good luck with the Chancellor’s application!!

dad2013, yeah!!! asdf, I think the answer is no but i’m not sure either… i do know not everyone who gets into UHC gets a scholarship.

MTnet/Twill/tamtiger/amanda/ctl987, Thanks for your post. Wish you all or children achieve your career goals with colleges as a steppingstone.

asdf14, perhaps no one’s responded because we don’t really know if that means absolutely no merit or if it just means no Chancellors or no full tuition or if it even means that (as most of us suspect, I think). you could ask one of the financial aid officers.

sorry, ctl, I didn’t see your response in there. I blame Evelyn Wood.

asdf14 - I believe some departmental scholarships (nursing for one) don’t pull solely from UHC-eligible.

It’s possible but if you consider the fact that UHC students tend to be the top students of the school and regardless of UHC giving money or another department (i.e. nursing, SSOE) they are still going to go to the same group of students.

From my experience- my friends who were awarded SSOE scholarships (not UHC ones) were all still UHC students, or students of UHC caliber.

Thanks everyone! Well, I got accepted. yay But is it possible to take my SATs again and get a higher score in order to secure a spot in UHC or merit scholarships? Or is my application done now that I’ve been accepted?

i believe the answer is yes

My D applied late October, got accepted in early December but no scholarship letter yet. Not sure whether to e-mail the admissions counselor. D’s friend was told to wait because scholarship decisions will be made in March …which obviously is not the case!

Scholarships vary in announcement times. u could get in touch with admissions to see if she is in scholarship pool unless you know she is already cause it was mentioned in admissions letter.

Only if you can update your application before January 15. After January 15, new applications are no longer considered for the scholarship pool (no matter how strong they are). Probably because the scholarship committee only meets once a week and already has many applications to sort through and decide whom to give money to, and these decisions all need to be made before April 1 I believe (or at least, before May 1).
