SDSU Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

@happychick1: You report all your ACT scores and the school will superscore it for you. It is usually just the Math and English scores that they will Superscore. I would calculate your EI based on your Superscore if possible but if there is little difference between your highest composite vs superscore, then you can use your highest composite.

@Gumbymom As always, thank you so much for your help!!! Appreciated!

Are you all who are going to SDSU going to join frat/sorority?? Is the area really that dangerous?!!

@prettyme0: As always, all students need to take precautions when being in and around campus especially at night. My son has had many night classes and as long as you are aware of your surroundings, stay in well lit areas and do not walk alone, you should be fine.

Oh so it is real… crap why didn’t I apply to Chapman!!? That’s why you should do college visits kids. I guess it’s cuz it’s close to Mexican border. It’s safe in the morning tho right?

Is it dangerous because of university avenue? Aside from any personal judgement, University Avenue has good reason to be on the list of the worst places: It’s the deadliest stretch of road in San Diego. With a local Fox news affiliate confirming that this six-mile stretch had 10% of the fatalities in the entire city, there’s good reason to avoid University Avenue, especially when on foot. The fact that University Avenue is ripe with neglected buildings, bars on the windows, and shady characters lurking on many of City Heights’ corners are all secondary to its reputation as a dangerous street. Ultimately, University Avenue leads the city in pedestrian deaths, so it’s among the least safe areas to walk around San Diego.

SDSU is pretty much like any other college campus in California. You should always be aware of your surroundings at night, as it is an open campus. There are call boxes where you can call for an escort if you are not comfortable. As @Gumbymom said you should always be aware of your surroundings. Stay on lit paths, and never put a drink down. It is common sense. The surrounding areas are not horrible. There is a trolley stop right in the middle of campus and you can take that to a lot of different locations. I think a pass for the semester is $136 or something like that or it is $5 per trip. As for @prettyme0 comments not sure why anyone would want to walk that far from campus. Personally that campus pretty much has everything you need within a block. Look at any university and you will find stories about them. Also University Avenue is a very long road and not all parts of it is bad so note that the name of the road does not determine its safety. There are many parts of University Ave that are quite nice. Depends on where you are.

@prettyme0: You have completely taken what I said about SDSU out of context. As @Bean981 stated, it can be dangerous at any campus even Chapman if you do not use common sense period and that is true for every student Male or Female. The news report you are referencing about the area around City Heights is located around 4 miles away from campus so I agree why would you be walking there? University avenue around the SDSU campus is very busy with many pedestrians so as long as you use common sense and use the designated crosswalks, you will be fine.

If you have not visited, I sincerely hope you do so you can ascertain for yourself that the SDSU campus and the surrounding area is safe.

I do not have a daughter but I would have no problems with her attending SDSU.

Ok! Thx, I’m feeling better about SDSU. Can we SIR to two Cal states as I’m still waiting to see if I got in the Honors at another Cal state as well.

@prettyme0: In “theory” you can SIR to 2 Cal States until May 1, then you would have to withdraw from one of your schools. You will however lose the enrollment deposit and if by chance both CSU’s find out you double deposited, then they could rescind both acceptances. Not worth the risk.

@Gumbymom Oh I was going to SIR to both on April 30… idk abut CSULB cuz I forgot about their honors program until now and not sure if Imma get in. I guess I will see when I go visit. But I don’t have to pay a fee just to send the transcript to multiple schools right?

@prettyme0: You can only SIR to one Cal State on or by May 1 and I would definitely SIR to one CSU now since you never know if there may be a computer glitch and issues in paying the enrollment fee by the deadline. Waiting till the last minute is not a sound strategy and SIRing to two schools 1 day before the deadline is risking both admissions.

If you are waiting on CSULB’s Honor college, when not give them a call tomorrow and check on your status.

@Gumbymom Oh CSULB’s honor college will tell u in early July, that’s the problem as I did get into SDSU honors.

@prettyme0: Well if you have to wait until July, then it is decision time. You need to choose CSULB or SDSU by May 1.

I like SDSU’s selectivity- only reason I’m leaning towards it. Like I know there’s better research universities with say 55% acceptance rate with higher chance of me getting in like UCR but I like school selectivity.

The perception at my D’s high school (local service area) is still that SDSU is a safety school. So wrong and surprised many unsuspecting students this year. You can read in the 2022 Admissions thread that students accepted to 2nd tier UCs (UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSB) were being denied admission to SDSU this year.

Yes unfortunately since we are also in local service area the perception is still off. They dont realize how difficult it is to get in here now. Heck schools that should have been safe schools we were waitlisted at. It is a great school and I’m thrilled my son got in here as this is his 2nd choice at the moment but he is waitlisted at his first choice CPP. So we are proceeding with SDSU for now unless something changes. Of course his friends that are going to SDSU are putting on tons of pressure and he is so conflicted which sucks.

@Banker1 Same perception of a “safety” school at D18’s school. I think those days are long gone.

@Bean981 at D’s school a couple of dozen kids are headed to CP SLO. So that appears to be the affordable choice that offers the “away” status many crave. Good luck to your son wherever he ends up.

It’s just now days the student population who apply is extremely high so more students are getting rejected.
