SDSU Class of 2024 Application Thread

@bananabarista Not that I’ve heard of in this thread…no waitlists nor rejections (only for the Honors college).

When do you think they’ll start sending out admissions again? I’ve only heard of two people getting in in my school and the rest of us are still pending

@bananabarista I think that is the same story for many high schools right now. My D has a few classmates that were accepted earlier this week, but the majority are still pending (with high stats and GPAs).

This is the same situation with my daughter right now, except there were quite a few acceptances. The few kids sitting there with “pending” are not very optimistic.

If there are more acceptances coming, it is a strange strategy to withhold them. My daughter had SDSU and Cal Poly as her top two and really felt that her hardest decision of the whole process would be if she got into both. Now that she has heard back from Cal Poly (accepted), she has pretty much made up her mind. SDSU’s silence has felt like a rejection. Even if they were to accept her now, she probably won’t go. She has spent the last few days expecting bad news from SDSU and has been envisioning herself at Cal Poly. That kind of thinking will be hard to undo.

As much as she was disappointed to be wait listed at CSULB, at least they told EVERYBODY EVERYTHING all at once. Rip off the band aid and let people move on.

I agree with you @AMCdad My son now has multiple acceptances, and he had touted SDSU as a first choice early in the process (and the low cost made me promote it, too). Now, with merit awards from private colleges that make them competitive with SDSU, he has allow but forgotten about SDSU and has his mind elsewhere (even wanting to confirm enrollment which I am stopping his from doing). I simply don;t understand the mixed message from SDSU; they claim that they to want to be taken seriously as a national university, but they likely lose quality students to their slow admissions process.

The delay in admissions decisions makes it difficult to plan to attend SDSU’s Open House on March 21! We’re in the same boat as @AMCdad

This is true for us too. My son prefers to stay in California (where we live), but the slow turnaround (late acceptance dates) for pretty much all UCs and Cal State schools is turning him (and us parents) off a bit. My son got accepted by some out of state “not so prestigious” private colleges early (Nov/Dec '19) and we had visited them (even twice for 2 of them). Those colleges maybe weren’t on the top of my son’s list in the beginning, but had slowly grown on him (the early acceptance made him feel wanted, and the chance to visit and know more about the schools was great). I wish that UCs and Cal State schools release their offers earlier and more efficiently.

I hear you and feel the same level of frustration. But do know that the UC’s get more applicants than any other universities. Last year, UCLA got 130,000+ applicants. I appreciate that they are actually taking the time to read essays and hopefully give kids an opportunity to be heard vs. the state schools where it is straight stats determining admission.

My oldest is a bio major at UCSD, it was excruciating waiting but when he got that acceptance, it was all worth the wait. And it has turned out to be the best place for him (he got plenty of other acceptances and rejections). My second is having a really hard time waiting to hear from schools. We were really happy when he got into SDSU and I keep telling him by the end of March, he will have other opportunities. It is hard to wait, but well worth it!

I don’t know what SDSU is doing by withholding the admissions decisions. It seems as if they are trying to cause an increase in anxiety in the prospective students. It’s almost like with the silence from their side, it’s a rejection/waitlist on my side. Personally, waiting on a an admissions decision (when I submitted my application way back in October) is terrible! My anxiety, and the anxiety and stress of my friends who are also waiting for a decision, is through the roof. I don’t think it’s good for our health.

The worst part of this waiting game is that as prospective students, we know that the admissions team of SDSU has made their decisions already. They’re just waiting to press the button for the decisions to be released.

Hopefully they complete their admissions decisions soon!

@LLHMYR I agree completely about the Open House. I suspect we will get a decision before the 15th, but if we don’t, I’ll have to start cancelling our reservations.

Hi guys. I have a 3.81 weighted and a 3.65 Unweighted with a 26 act. Havnt heard back, do you think I still have a chance?

I hear you too. I understand UCs get a high number of applications, but I would prefer them having an earlier application deadline, and be able to release their decisions late Feb/early March. If I happen to like UCs/Cal state schools, and is lucky enough to get accepted by a few, I don’t think 30 days is enough to attend Open House/admitted student days (many of them have only handful of days to choose from in Apr), and make an educated decision on which school to choose from. Plus the fact that these days it’s so hard to “predict” or “guestimate” where one would likely/unlikely to be accepted by UCs (many college counselors had in the past few years started classifying UCs as “lottery schools”) make the wait for applicants even more excruciating because of the high uncertainty.

I don’t understand why the CSU’s take so long with admissions decisions. There is no essay at all for the CSU’s. Certain programs do, but overall, there is no essays—you cannot even submit an essay if you wanted to. I assume they look just at the GPA and test scores of prospective students and make a choice based off of that.

Plus, coming from a family that cannot afford to travel/visit colleges whenever I want, it makes it hard because I want to visit SDSU, but can’t unless I know I have been admitted. (Don’t want to waste money and time visiting a college I can’t go to) Hopefully they release the complete decisions soon!

Has anyone called?

@casewagstaff yes you have a chance. Nothing is final until you get an official rejection. Be positive!! Anything can still happen, and there are still more acceptances coming I’m sure!

They just started sending out rejections for nursing  Saw this on the Reddit thread for SDSU applicants

Hi! What is the name of the Reddit thread? Thanks!

It’s under the decisions megathread for the main thread of applying to college

especially given the limited information an applicant needs to provide. it’s not like they are reviewing essays, LORs or ECs. the data should immediately flow and be clear who is above the line, on the line and below the line. Easy peasy.

@AMCdad
Same story here except opposite, my daughter got into CSULB, rejected from SLO and waiting forever for SDSU. We started picturing her at CSULB.
