SDSU Class of 2024 Application Thread

QQ - has anyone heard if SDSU is extending the deadline for transcripts? Our school is currently closed and I don’t think we would make the May 1 deadline. If there’s another thread that I should post this to, please let me know. I couldn’t find one. Thanks!

@2024parent2024 Im not sure if they are or not but the admissions office would definitely know! I just called them yesterday and they are still taking calls !

@Boyandgirlmom:

2019 Waitlist list stats:
Number of waitlisted applicants? 3,529
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 1,607
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 513

Thank you!!!

I’m curious if Gumbymom or anyone has insight into the internal decisions that each college must be making right now about fall courses as to in person, online or some mix. I know a community college administrator in SoCal and they have elected to have all SUMMER courses be online, but they have not made a decision for fall. I know… many unknowns, and several variables, but at some point (June 1???) colleges will have to announce their plans for dorm and course scheduling, and other resources. With the peak deaths 2-6 weeks from now in most major cities, I can’t see how it will be wise to stuff 3-4 students into a dorm room, or pack a 300 person elbow-to-elbow lecture hall on campus 90 days later. Difficult decisions, but I sense an online fall experience for most students. Ideas/thoughts?

FYI SDSU updated my daughter’s portal this morning with her financial information. So check portals if you were waiting for this.

I got into Foods and Nutrition major today!!! Very excited and relieved.

anyone else appealing sdsu decision?

Yes my S sent his appeal in a couple days after he was rejected. Interestingly, they wanted him to send via the mail but just check and they changed the procedure to email. So he had to re-submit again. Good Luck!

does anyone know when freshmen orientation will be? when was it last year and will it be around the same time?

@daniellejudilla: Freshman orientation has been Mid to the end of July. For this year, it will be up to admissions to determine due to COVID 19.

Does anyone know if they will do online classes for the fall if the Covid-19 issue is prolonged ? We are OOS and wondering whether to commit with so many overhanging unknowns.

@Valleyprincess, nothing official from SDSU, but it is my OPINION that large schools like SDSU will not have any/many in person courses for fall. With Covid now thought to infect a person, person recovers, Covid goes dormant, a few weeks go by, and then it appears again in some patients, I’m not sure how college administrations can take the risk of large gatherings in 4 months. Classes, lecture halls, dining, dorms - no way. Of course, schools need revenue, so this is a challenging problem so they may risk it and open the doors. With what I know now, I am planning for an online fall. I’m often wrong.

@ Savvydog
I completely agree, dorms and large classes for freshman are public health challenges and I am thinking this will be determined by many governmental policies as well. I am a parent, and think that we won’t really be safe until Spring semester at best. However, I am hoping the schools will put forth info of ideas before comittment dates. I am probably just going to call.

Just to warn anyone in the future applying to SDSU or anyone currently on the waitlist, I applied to SDSU for fall 2020 and got in as an out of state applicant. I was so excited and planning on attending until I saw my financial aid package, which was virtually nothing. My fafsa said my expected family contribution was 0 but SDSU did not give me any aid at all whatsoever, the only aid I would get was from the pell grant which you get at any school. They said I must come to SDSU with about $40,000 in loans, personal funding, or outside scholarships because the aid all goes to CA residents. I can understand that completely, its fair, but i am just warning those who may not be aware of the out of state situation at SDSU.

@lovey8888 I agree that every out of state applicant for any public CA school should already be aware of this before they apply. Don’t get me wrong. The schools need the money and they may lower standards somewhat of OOS applicants to be sure to admit as many as they need to receive greater revenue. But the CA taxpayers support our public schools and as such the OOS applicants won’t receive any discounts. Also, any OOS applicant who thinks they can game the system by declaring in-state status in any year of schooling will surely be disappointed.

@lovey8888:

Financial aid 101: Run the Net Price calculators on any of school of interest before applying to save you from wasting time and money if the FA will not meet your needs.

Best of luck wherever you end up.

@Gumbymom May I ask where are you getting those waitlist stats from? I’m currently on the waitlist and I can’t seem to find those same stats anywhere online.

The Waitlist stats are from the common dataset for SDSU.
