Sally, I think they chose to let him get away. Wasn’t that yesterday? They had no evidence to arrest him for anything. Now, they do. And, tomorrow they either will or won’t have more. We"ll see.

Indeed. And I guess the track record for previously missing girls isn’t so great.

There are thousands of people that are missing out there, for years, let alone 9 days, from all over the country.

LF - All major and minor news organizations have Twitter accounts and FB pages. And, yes it is possible to see a tweet that the cops are back at the building and another tweet that they left with the evidence they went there for and assume that they have a strategy. It’s all partial information until it’s over and it’s a long way from over, right now. Actually, I think it’s growing. The number of agencies involved seems to be growing, too.

Well, I’ll speculate. I think they’re looking at him in connection with a string of missing women in that area. There I said it. Now, we wait to see if they find any links in his car or his belongings… I’m watching the chief on CNN. He looks tired. And, he says the prosecutor wants more before he calls it probable cause. “We’re just not there yet.” Which, speculatively is not quite the same as, “We got nothing”. That’s my take for today.

If that is a typical police report for a weekend in Charlottesville I don’t think I would like to visit there any time soon.

sevmom, you and Flossy have both made this same point. So what? We are talking about FIVE YOUNG WOMEN in a smallish geographic area. I don’t know about where you live, but that would be cause for alarm where I do. If there’s no pattern to the disappearances, then it might just be a coincidence–but otherwise it could be the work of a serial criminal. Whether that is Jesse Matthew or someone else remains to be seen.

The police are aware of this and probably testing his DNA right now in connection with at least one of those other cases.

Isn’t that why the FBI is involved? This is not just a missing young woman. We live in a very safe area with great policing but don’t think for a second if one of my daughters goes missing the FBI is coming to town. Maybe, they would.

sally, Randy Taylor is in jail for the murder of one of these girls , Alexis Murphy, and had had contact with another missing girl, Samantha Clarke, in the days before her disappearance. Another case involves a transgender teen who went out to meet a date and never returned. Morgan Harrington 's remains were found and that case has been linked to a rape case in Fairfax. I’m sure they will look at the DNA in that. Charlottesville and the counties around it is a big area. I’m certainly not saying that 5 girls disappearing in the last 5 years is not cause for concern . But, unfortunately, there really are lots of unsolved missing persons cases and unsolved murders out there. That’s all I’m saying. I thought I lived in a pretty safe neighborhood (in another part of Virginia, not near Charlottesville) but found out tonight that a man who was mugged recently in my neighborhood , died ,from his injuries. Nobody has been arrested yet. There are , unfortunately, criminals, everywhere, preying on people. If some of you live in an area that is immune to crime and bad things happening, you are very lucky. No matter what city I visit, when you turn on the news, there always is bad stuff being reported.

I’m glad the FBI has been called in on this. I really hope there will be some closure in this. If any of these cases ARE linked, the FBI hopefully will get to the bottom of it. I didn’t realize it would take so long to process the car.

Flossy, I believe it is quite possible the FBI would come to town if your daughter went missing. I don’t believe there has to be suspicion of a serial killer being involved for the FBI to get involved. If the local police need more manpower, if there is fear of imminent harm, etc. they could potentially be asked to help.

Maybe, but my bigger point was that I really think this is being viewed by everyone involved in the investigation as more than just one missing girl. Some of the same cops that worked the Morgan Harrington case are also working this one. Anyway, here’s link to an article that sums things up pretty well so far for those who get annoyed by developing events.

http://www.insidenova.com/headlines/updated-police-confirm-jesse-lj-matthew-person-of-interest-in/article_865681c2-4040-11e4-a18b-0710e0693940.htm

That would certainly make sense that some of the police officers that have been involved in Morgan Harrington’s case would still be around to work on this case. I hope that case is solved as well , in terms of finding out who killed her . They also never found the killers of two Virginia Tech students that were murdered in a forest area in August 09, a few miles from campus. Heidi Childs and David Metzler. That case has never been solved either. That one really unnerved me as my younger son had just started at Virginia Tech.

I really hope they get this DNA and forensic evidence soon.

“they let their main person of interest get away”

The question is do we think a hospital orderly and former cabbie who is not the best driver outsmarted local, state and federal law enforcement officers or do we think they know what they’re doing. I’m going with the cops for now.

I think they have got him just where they want him - on the run.

Other than being black, how does Matthews resemble the suspect in those other cases? The facial features bear little resemblance in my opinion.

Lucie, That’s what I also said earlier but the article that Flossy linked says he does bear a resemblance. I don’t see it either other than both people being black. That’s why the DNA is crucial to rule him either in or out where Morgan Harrington is concerned.

I’m not sure they would purposely let him get away but who knows. That’s a set up for potential suicide or suicide by cop if he gets cornered. And if something like that happened, they may never know what happened to Hannah, IF he had anything to do with her disappearance.

This article has a pretty good summary of the case so far.

I just find it so heartbreaking that an 18-year-old college student would find the need to drink in a bar with a stranger at 1:30 in the morning. Where were her friends?

Hannah Graham disappearance: What we know - CNN;

Did you see the photos of him when he was cab driver? He was much thinner with hair like the sketch. I also wonder why she went off with him. And, when he put his arm around her why she didn’t freak out if he was a stranger. Maybe, they got something useful from the bartender.

She appeared drunk out of her mind. I’m not at all surprised she went with someone.
