Sideways is why we added Santa Ynez vineyards and Solvang to a California vacation.
The last scene of Sideways is a favorite.
This thread reminded me that I’d wanted to see The Holdovers. We enjoyed it very much. (I liked Sideways too, though I don’t remember much except that it got everyone drinking Pinot Noirs instead of Merlot.)
I just saw The Zone of Interest
It is unsettling.
My Washington Post gave it 4 stars, and to Origin as well, in the Weekend Section.
It has won several awards already including the Grand Prix at Cannes.
CC’ers would really like The Holdovers. I expect it to be nominated for a few Academy Awards.
I enjoyed The Holdovers. Amusing how the boys’ hair styles are similar to current boys’ hair styles. I kept forgetting the time period. I was glad to see that Da’Vine Joy Randolph won a Golden Globe and is nominated for an Oscar. I thought she was fantastic.
Iron Claw: agree…Zac was terrific…Maura Tierney, too. Based on true story. Recommend!
Just watched the Holdovers, great recommendation. My mom’s uncle taught at a prep school here, the lead character really reminded me of him, my grandmother had three sisters and four brothers growing up in Jersey City, uncle Francis was an interesting guy.
Tonight we watched “Finding Forrester” with Sean Connery (2000) on Amazon Prime. We really enjoyed it! An uplifting movie. Not sure why I hadn’t seen it before. I highly recommend it.
Finding Forrester is one of my all-time favorites.
We watched The Holdovers tonight and really liked it. H went to boarding school in Scotland and D2 wanted him to watch it.
We saw American Fiction this weekend and highly recommend it. It’s a farce with a lot of melancholy and grief. I never thought I’d see a movie that shares elements of Hollywood Shuffle and Manchester by the Sea, but here we are.
Did you stream it by chance or go to the theater? I’d love to see it, but I can’t find it.
I think most of my mother’s cousins taught at New England prep schools so the types were very familiar to me too!
Same question here. Are American Fiction and the Holdovers available to stream?
Holdovers was available on Prime for $20
when we checked a couple of weeks ago. We decided to wait until the price drops.
Holdovers can be streamed for free on peacock.
I think American Fiction os only in theaters – or ot was when i looked 2 weeks ago!
