I was waiting for the Amazon price to come down as well with Holdovers. But we have Peacock for a couple more weeks, so that’s good to know. Thanks.
We saw American Fiction in a theater.
(I bet a lot of households have Peacock for a couple more weeks since many had to subscribe to it in order to watch the Chiefs play the Dolphins! Ours included!)
We wanted to watch that game but I refused to be held hostage and pay for it, ha.
I’m concerned this is going to be more of a trend. Revenue is shifting to streaming services and companies want to sign on new customers. NFL is one of the few things people will still quickly pay for, especially for big games like this one.
I signed up for Peacock and canceled the next day, but I’m sure plenty of people have forgotten (or think “what’s another $5.99 a month?”). That’s what companies like NBC are banking on.
True.
In our case, DH saw that Yellowstone and a few other reputable shows are on Peacock, so….he told me not to cancel the subscription yet.
Peacock also has Vigil (geopolitics of nuclear deterrence made fun through a “dead sailor on nuclear submarine” thriller plot) and Poker Face (Columbo meets Mentalist with very flawed&funny female main character).
I loved poker face (I also loved Columbo and the mentalist).
Cool!
I will add them to our watchlist on there.
Many thanks!!
ETA: I just saw who the actress in Vigil is and I love her!!! Saw her in some other series (where she played a community doctor) and appreciated her skills in connecting with audience so well in it.
Evidently, the Peacock Chiefs/Dolphins game led to the biggest streaming service signups ever:
Football and romance makes for two solid American pastimes.
Kelce and Kansas City, and Taylor Swift and Kelce, lol.
I’m a fan of both.
It’s just Taylor’s world and we are all living in it!
Shoot, I was hoping their strategy wouldn’t work. Now they’ll be emboldened to do it again.
Another plus for Peacock is English Premier League soccer, if that’s your thing. We have Peacock included for free due to some sort of “points” earned, so we don’t pay for it (directly).
I was planning to sign up for a month of Peacock to watch the game, but then saw a deal for half-off of a year-long subscription. I decided to go ahead with that when my daughter reminded me that the Summer Olympics would be on there! And, as a bonus, I can now catch up on Yellowstone!
Poker Face was entertaining. The season finale was my favorite. I also enjoyed Mr. Monk’s Last Case. Started watching Quantum Leap this season. Oppenheimer will be streamed on Peacock next month for free.
H enjoys watching Big Ten sports and is looking forward to Olympic coverage this summer.
Aqua Man was a decent movie, but unfortunately, that only says it was almost worth the price of the tickets…almost. Snacks? Nope! We’ll smuggle them in my wife’s purse.
Hubby and I just saw Poor Things. I agree that it’s not conventional, not for everyone, and not the kind of movie you take the family to, not even if your kids are adults, lol. LOTS of sex.
But wowza, what a terrific movie! If you like offbeat, steampunk, amazing dialogue, comedy, off-the-charts gorgeous set design, this is your movie. Emma Stone deserves the Oscar, imho. Hubby, an actor in a former life, is raving about its direction and acting. I, a film ignoramus who likes it when stuff blows up, just enjoyed the ride.
Saturday night calls for a disaster movie! Mr. picked San Andreas. It fit the bill just right! My choice was Deepwater Horizon. Will watch that next week!
We still have 2 hours to kill… Mr. found an odd Russian movie on Amazon…The Crew. Dubbed!! No subtitles! Wiki says it is a remake of a very popular Soviet seventies disaster movie… so far, so good!
FINALLY got around to watching The Holdovers–what a great movie! Extra fun when you recognize almost all the filming locations in your home state.
