Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

I’d much rather say I agree with a bad review after the fact than skip a movie with a story I was interested in, but I don’t read reviews prior to seeing a movie.

Not really a movie, but if you like Roger Federer, tennis and have 90 mins, I recommend the documentary on Amazon Prime Video, Federer: Twelve Final Days.

Maybe I was just tired/in a down mood. It had all the right elements to be totally enjoyable.

Saw a preview for “Here”. Anyone else see the preview? Over the top schmaltz. Tom Hanks as he was in “Big”. Dinosaurs too.

I saw the preview and couldn’t figure out what it was all about.

Ok I looked it up. Wiki sez:

“The story covers the events of a single spot of land and its inhabitants, spanning from the past to well into the future.”

Now, those dinosaurs make sense! I think it could be a good story. When I dig in the dirt of our backyard, I occasionally start wondering about what might have been happening on this piece of land centuries and centuries ago.

This makes me think of a good movie called The Red Violin, which tells the story of a violin and all its various owners over 400 years or so.

One of the few movies we decided to buy on Blu-ray.

I recently watched the documentary (streaming) about photographer Nan Goldin, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.

Footage of her artistic activism during the early days of the AIDS epidemic and her more recent efforts to hold Purdue Pharma accountable for the opioid crisis. Lots of footage from years ago - very moving and thought-provoking.

That’s helpful - thanks. The dinosaurs threw me. I thought of “The Tree of Life”. Seemed a little heavy handed as a way to make a point. I bet it will do well though.

 The dinosaurs were super puzzling and made no sense if one assumed the movie was following a family as I initially did.

Going to see Twisters tonight. Will report tomorrow.

Find Me Falling with Harry Connick, Jr. on Netflix was fine entertainment for 90 minutes, but the storyline was formulaic. Filmed in Cypress, so the scenery was beautiful.

We saw Twisters last night and we were pleasantly surprised. We both really wanted to like it and are easily entertained. If you didn’t like the first one, you probably won’t like this one. The storyline was pretty easy to guess what would happen, but I liked the characters and it kept my attention the whole way through. I dare say I might have liked this one better than the first

But I had to laugh. Is Glen Powell in EVERYTHING now? Every time I watch a movie, there he is! Commercials too!

Spot on review! Very entertaining,
and not a remake of the original or a sequel.

Was glad to see Maura Tierney in a small role. My favorite ER actor.

Also went to see Twisters and really enjoyed it. DH felt some of the plot made no sense but I was able to suspend disbelief and thoroughly enjoyed it!

We put on Land of Bad (Netflix) last night. H thought it was decent but after an hour I had enough and went upstairs.

Oh my. I watched I am Celine Dion, free on Prime. I’m not a Celine fan necessarily, but am always interested in someone’s world. I didn’t think much of it (her process is interesting though), until the end. I cried. I really wanted to hug her.

Bring tissues.

We saw Twisters. I enjoyed it way more than Twister. I’m a huge fan of Daisy Edgar Jones and she didn’t disappoint. I thought the part of the showboating YouTuber was written for Glen Powell - he is everywhere and IMO will continue to be. Just a fun summer movie - our theatre was packed with such a motley crew of viewers, it was a Barbiesque experience.
